    LG 50PC1DRA repair?

I have 50" plasma I'm wanting to sell, and I have an interested buyer, but it has some history with "snapping" off. The TV is about 4 years old or so but was only used for about 3 years. The first symptom I remember seeing is that the TV would turn itself on very rarely. This happened within the first year of owning. I read on forums that this was a common issue with the TV so I didn't take it as anything more than a strange anomaly. Not being experienced in electrical circuits capacitors, etc. I didn't realize I should have had that checked out back then.

So about a year after that symptom, the TV began snapping (electrical sounding pop) and shutting off right after turning it on within 3 seconds of pressing power. After a couple tries the TV would turn on and operate normally. It was intermittent, but increased in frequency over time.

Then it started getting less frequent. It was always plugged in, and turned on several hours each day for about 3 years. Then we had to move to an apartment and we put the TV in storage as we used a smaller tv. I took it out of storage several weeks ago and have turned it on several times and haven't had the problem. I haven't had it plugged in for more than a few hours at a time during the past few weeks, but the problem "seems" to be gone. I plan to plug it in tonight and let it heat up for a few days and see if the problem resurfaces.

Is this more likely a cap problem or an electrical switch issue? My dad says since it's so intermittent and the TV works after several tries, it may not be bad caps. Can problems like this correct themselves? The potential buyer is willing to pay about $400, but to repair power supply/caps, or maybe an electronic switch... tv repair shop estimates close to $200. So I want to try repairing myself. If it's caps, I feel fairly comfortable replacing them myself (my dad's an electrician and I'm an IT server admin). If it's anything beyond caps, we're not sure if it's worth repairing since an entire power supply board is probly close to or more than $150.

    Any comments/suggestions appreciated. Thanks.

Could be an arc inside a capacitor. Also could be some glue or something of the like becoming conductive and arcing.

Is it possible you could source some pictures for us?

Thanks. I'll try to get some pics of the power board soon.

ok. Here are some pics from the front of the power board. Definitely can see some raised caps. I had the unit plugged in all night and ran it for a couple hours this morning. It continues to turn off and on without and sign of problems.

After putting the back cover back on, the problem is back, tho it might be slightly different. The sound keeps cutting out at first and then the TV shuts off. SO far I've only tested the Cable box via HDMI1. I'll be testing the DVD player and HDMI2 and maybe component later.

One thing I'm noticing is looking through the small holes in the back panel I see a tiny red light on one of the other boards. Not the "off" light that shines at the bottom. This one is at the top of one of the controller boards. It's just below and to the left of the back panel center screw. It stays on whether the TV is on or not as long as it's plugged in. I don;t recall if this was on before. I don't think it was. Could dust have gotten into somewhere and causing a new arc? There was an expected amount of dust I tried blowing most of it out of the various areas.

STOP running the TV with bad caps. You could cause damage to other components making for a very expen$$$ive repair instead of a potential simple $20 replace all caps scenario.

No, that is very likely just an indicator LED. If it was an arc, it would grow bigger, and smell bad, and catch your house on fire...

Just as RC said, don't run it with those 'sploded capacitors anymore!

Thanks for your replies. I found a link to the service manuals on this forum. Hopefully that can help me identify what caps I need to order. I also found retiredcap's guide for troubleshooting. I'll see how far I can get. Hopefully it's just the capacitors.

I have repaired this same issue. The clicking off is not related to the caps but they will cause power-up problems as you are experiencing. The problems are separate. The clicking problem is with the AC detect circuit which can be bypassed.

Dell Latitude 5511 audible electrical noise
                    by Asxetos21
I have a Dell Latitude 5511 laptop, and lately, a faint but clearly audible electrical (crackling) noise comes from the motherboard, similar to the random clicking coming from a mechanical hdd's heads moving inside it.
The laptop shows no signs of malfunction, and clearly this is electrical not mechanical, so my suspicion goes to a dodgy component in the power rails (a capacitor or a coil?). I fear this could develop into a serious damage.

Any advise on how to narrow it down?
                    The schematic is available here:

                    Hy guys!

Today Im posting a few photos from my electrical heater controller.

The thing is that it turn on just right but as soon as the backlit comes in when I press the UP / DOWN temperature buttons the displays fades at such a point that the display fades completely progressively in 1-2 secons, its noticeable the display fading away, then the backlit stays really weak and the power LED goes out.

Everything comes back to normal after a 10 seconds that is the time the backlit should remain ON while i change the temperature setting.

                    Besides...

water pump Scala2 - electrical diagram
                    by betmen
                    Hello,
Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the pump mentioned?
The markings on the board are 98800964 r07, two or three capacitors are burnt.
I don't have the board with me yet, but I don't know if the printed lines on the board are visible due to the short circuit that occurred and how the capacitors were connected.
