50 Inch LG turns on then off immediatly

    Hello,
I am not well versed with Plasma's but I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

I have a 50 inch plasma that is about 5 years old. Recently it started this thing where when turned on the green light would show but no picture. Then if I turned it off an then on all is well picture sound everything.

The problem has progressed now though and it is rather annoying. Now when I turn the T.V. on I get green then red. Press power again and the same thing. After a number of cycles it finally goes green then blinks green and turns off after about a minute. The next press of the power button turns the TV on and everything works. When the on/off thing started it was about 5 cycles before the TV would turn on. Now it takes about 20-40 cycles depending on the day and I believe how long the set has been off for before it turns on and works. If I shut the TV off after a show or something then turn it on within an hour or so it just comes on with no trouble.

I have not tried to much to TS this set other than disconnecting power briefly but that has no effect. I have not tried 24 hours or anything. I will try replacing the power cord tonight but I am hoping someone has some ideas. It seems like maybe the power supply is not getting enough juice to fire up the set. For now I just hand the remote to my 5 year old and have him go to town on the power button till it stays on.

    Any Help would be appriciated

This is better suited in the "Troubleshooting TVs and Video Sources" section.

Taking longer and longer to power up could be a symptom of bad capacitors. You will have to take apart the TV and inspect the power board for bad capacitors.

edit: It would help to know what model number. LG makes a lot of plasmas.

If you are new to this forum, we can help a lot more if you please post clear focused pictures (max resolution 2000x2000 and 2MB) of your boards using the manage attachments button so they are hosted here. Information and picture clarity compositions should look like this post.

We respectfully ask that you make some time and effort to read some of the guides available for basic troubleshooting. After you have read through them, then ask clarification questions or report your findings.

Please do not post inline and offsite as they slow down the loading of pages.

I will check the caps. I can try to get the model number but it is on the back of the set and hard to get to. I will post it when I get a chance to pull it down probably next week.
