    Asus Boardview Questions

Hey guys i have a question in regards to the Asus boardview software. i am familiar with schematics and how to follow them somewhat and have used boardview in the past but in conjunction with a schematic and mainly just to locate a part I'm looking at on a schematic. I am currently messing with an Asus x551ca and i am pretty certain that a schematic does not exist just a boardview.

the unit has no voltage at the power button so i know for sure that i don't have my 3v. the dc jack is fine as i have tested that with a multimeter and can pretty much follow the voltage on many different parts of the board. My question is this:

On the boardview i see many different power rails am i correct to say that +3VAO is the 3 volts always on? if this is the case, when i select those as short points and have all the areas on the BV light up that have +3VAO i cannot determine where it is created. i know some IC somewhere has convert the voltage from the 18.5 I'm putting in but i cannot for the life of me figure out which one it is.

If you have no access to a schematic and just a BV how do you determine how the voltage flows where its created etc. I have been messing with this particular board for quite awhile and do not want to give up on it because than what have i learned. i absolutely love to learn and figure things out but this one is driving me up the wall.

Ive also seen mention of boardview + scan photo. what exactly is a scan photo and how does that come into play? i didn't see any other files attached just the .fz and the PCBrepairtool.

Anyways, thanks for any help in advance this forum is a wealth of info and i have enjoyed reading the many different threads!

    Re: Asus Boardview Questions

ususally I've used boardview+scan photo+ schematic that quite close. in this case could be quite close is asus ux31a2 schematic.

    https://www.badcaps.net/forum/attach...9&d=1396645699

in asus x551ca RT8239b that taken responsibility as dc-dc regulator 3.3v/5v
scan photo used to compare if have missed component due burn or accidental on process part replacement

+3va/+3vao that voltage always on, +3vo come out after switch on power button
