I need to reinstall windows via usb which I still can't do. Shall I clone another drive instead perhaps? I've got another Surface Laptop 4.

Bitlocker is not a problem.
Just erase the disk with the Windows installation.

Damn, no, I missed that one. Cheers for posting it... I'd rather not do any more soldering, I had to replace a resistor on my last effort.

Shiyab disabled the variable.

No one gave you back access to the USBs.

Your is working fully (access to UEFI boot etc) 👍 I'm just having problems with the hdd now.

The Laptop cannot access it's own ssd to install the OS onto so I will have to investigate further. I'm guessing that this was the original fault before it was disposed of. Thanks for all the help, I'd have no idea how to bypass bitlocker ect. without your assistance.

try with a recovery surface image with your serial number

I've done that, I can get to the install windows screen but because the laptop doesn't recognise any hdd installed I can't get any further. I'm guessing it's the motherboard because I tried it with a working Surface Laptop 4 hdd too. I didn't/couldn't check whether it could see a hdd before I asked for help with the bitlocker/uefi locks. It's not an urgent problem, the laptop is for personal use, I don't have a customer waiting.

The hard drive works, I tested it separately as an external hard drive. Now, the laptop just doesn't see a hdd.

So, if I was getting to the Bitlocker screen before flashing the bios eeprom then you think the laptop was definitely communicating with the hard drive? And, if so, now that it's not working I must have created the problem with my soldering...

I was a bit weary of swapping the chip in and out so much.
