    Flashing a T480s BIOS

    Hello,

I have some electronics experience, but I haven't flashed a BIOS chip before. If someone doesn't mind answering a few basic questions I would really appreciate it. Which chip on the T480s system board do I need to dump/write to? Also, which programmer should I use (CH431a, TL866II plus, etc.)?

As far as I can tell, it's either U49 (25Q128JVSQ, SOIC8) or U23 (MEC1663, BGA). If it's U23, do I interface with it using the JTAG connector next to it?

    Thanks in advance!

P.S. I hope I've put this in the correct sub-forum

    Hi,

U49 (25Q128JVSQ, SOIC8) is the chip, read the chip 2-3 time compare it and save, use autopatch and follow the instruction..... and write the original Bin back all is done.
it can be done with CH431a, TL866II plus..

Found this page while trying to use autopatcher with a t480s. The U49 25Q chip is the one you're looking for. It's located next to the RAM expansion slot, so close that an 8-pin clip has almost no clearance, but it will fit. There are other chips to be confused with so make sure you find the right one.

I also wondered if it was working because the screen was blank for a bit longer than I expected, but it did and I'm very happy.

This motherboard has 2 similar chips. One is on the front marked with BIOS SKT "Winbond 25Q256JVEN" and one on the back marked with U351 "Gigadevice 25B256EYIG". I ignored the one on the back and only desoldered front chip. Made a backup, made sure the reading was the same with another 3 backups.

            Hi Badcaps,
I'm having the same Notebook and problem as in this topic:
            HTML Code:
            https://www.badcaps.net/forum/troubleshooting-hardware-devices-and-electronics-theory/troubleshooting-laptops-tablets-and-mobile-devices/bios-requests-only/3601016-need-bios-for-clevo-pd50pnp
I'm assuming that flashing the provided bios in this topic would solve my problem.
The only thing i can boot to is EFI shell
How do i flash the bios image in the EFI shell ? / Can i use any flash.nsh or is the executable interconnected to the bios image? ( i cannot find any bios related files in the internet...

Thinkpad t480s, completely dead after BIOS flash using CH341A programmer
            by what_1282105
Following this guide (https://www.reddit.com/r/thinkpad/co...g_and_flashing) i re-flashed my t480s BIOS using an external (CH341A) programmer. The flash didnt work, so i reverted back to my BIOS backup successfully. The BIOS in the chip and the BIOS backup file are identical according to windows' file compare. The revert, however, didnt work: the only thing the computer does is flash the power button 3 times when AC power is connected. I've tried unplugging the CMOS battery, holding the reset button and holding down the power button- no signs of life....

            X270 - Bios flashing help
            by Timeeez
            Hello everyone,

I am still a beginner and want to learn more about flashing bios. First of all, thank you very much for the tutorials made on this forum it helps a lot.

Lets get straight to the point. When I try to flash the bios of my Lenovo X270 it restarts several times and always returns to the bios that was there at the beginning. When I get the bios from someone on the forum and write it to the bios chip, I always have the same serial numbers. I have the feeling that the pc is reflashing itself. Where could this come from? How to avoid this problem?
