Thank you for this, unfortunately the laptop is now a no boot? If I press the power button I get an amber light which stays illuminate until I let the power button go. That's all. What could this be?

    EDIT

I've flashed the old bios again and now it boots?

Hello, you can try to remove the wwan and wlan card and then hold the power button for 15 seconds to discharge everything (cmos battery unplugged) then try to restart without the wlan card.
The same thing happened to me as it did to you with a Dell 5401.
After patching the amber light, I then removed the wwan and wlan card and then it worked.
      I have no idea why.
      A try can't hurt.
      Good luck.

For Dell products, each product has a service tag number that is similar to a serial number.
