The backup isn`t right. How are you making the backup ? ,with a programmer and clip,or intel FPT.

Bios unlock for a Zbook 15 G3 studio

I wanted to start this thread since I received a laptop from a seller that decided it was ok to sell locked computers to folks while conveniently forgetting to disclose this prior to the sale. When asked to resolve it I was told it's no big deal, just go on Youtube and they show you how to do it. Still pissed about that response (I'll deal with him later) but I believe when life gives you lemons, it's time to make lemonade.

So right now I have this Zbook 15 G3 and really the only problem with it currently is the bios is admin locked such that I can't use the HP Assistant to update the bios to the most current version (it's still stuck at 1.09 which is probably original when sold versus the current version available from HP which I believe is 1.41). So everything else works and the laptop fully boots into windows and otherwise operates normally to start. The key here is I don't want to junk this motherboard at all if I can help it.

I believe I have located the bios chip on the motherboard (there are 3 chips that look similar, see attached). I took a shot of the whole board and then zoomed in on each one just so others can see what I mean. The bios chip appears to be a Winbond 25Q128FVSQ and if you look it even indicates the Bios chip location right on the PCB so that part wasn't too hard. Not sure if all HP boards do this but this one seems to be clearly indicated.

Next I bought a CH134A setup like this which comes with a test clip:

I was hoping to be able to read the chip without unsoldering it but that's where I stopped since I wanted to check with those that have more experience than I. I had read that some of these programmers use incorrect voltage (5V vs 3.3V) and I didn't want to damage my perfectly good chip.

    Few questions.....
    1) Are these programmers safe to use? (ie won't damage the bios chip)
    2) Should I be checking any voltages before trying to read the chip using the test clip?
    3) Can you safely do this with a test clip (ie get a good Bios dump to verify) or does it have to be unsoldered to ensure success?
    4) What is the preferred program to use when reading the chip? (CH134A came with no directions, drivers or software at all)

I assume I will need to unhook the battery and plug in the charger to do this as suggested in several other threads in order to do this process.

Any tips/help on this would be most appreciated.

That file had part of the password area still not deleted. But if it worked then good.

Do not use the same file on all laptops. Make a new dump for every laptop and upload them here.

[REQUEST] Dell G3 3579 BIOS Password & AMI Protected Range/BIOS Guard Unlock
    by zenius
Hello, I have an old Dell G3 3579 (ST: 2WQ7LP2-8FC8) with a newer 8FC8 BIOS password. I have successfully attached to the flash chip (W25Q128JVSQ) on the motherboard with a CH341A programmer and made several modifications using Intel FIT (e.g., allow software SPI write) without bricking. I was also able to boot to a modified GRUB shell where I attempted to edit many BIOS security related options like BIOS Guard/Lock, Flash Signature Override, ME FW Image Re-Flash, etc.

Unfortunately, some of these modifications like to Intel BIOS Guard failed because it is fused into the PCH. Also,...

I'm using TONGFANG "GM7TG7P" model laptop for over 3 years and i'm entering the same bios administrator password everyday. My laptop has Aptio BIOS (American Megatrends, AMI).

But today it's not accepting my password. I'm %100 sure i'm entering the correct password.

I'm trying to reset my bios without success.

    I tried :

-I removed the BIOS battery and main battery. Waited for a long time but it didn't work. They already stated in the user manual that the password will not be reset even if the batteries...

    HP Omen 15-dh0052nf power-on & bios password
    by Nopslide
Hello everyone, I come here to tell you my problem regarding the power-on password. It is not a bios reset demand, and i can't have any access to windows. This is the bios and power-on password that is blocking all other things.

My Omen 15-dh0052nf purchased second-hand was configured with the bios password upon purchase (very simple password :P ).

Having decided to sell it in order to get something more powerful, I reset all BIOS settings and set a blank administrator password. But the power-on password cannot be changed to a blank one so I let the actual password set....
