In my case, the culprit was the L23 throttle

          Hello !

I have the same problem on my Legion, the keyboard does not work anymore. I heard about the famous L23 as well as a jumper to add. What is the solution? thank you!

Hello and THANK YOU all for this shared knowledge database that is this forum. especially Brainfart and infino that throw this comment and solve my problem .nice hit😂

In my lenovo legion y540 the keyboard works sometimes on bios, other times not even can enter in bios. Never worded on windows and appear an Unknown usb device on devices lists (that is a "usb compose device" with failed descriptor on port #0006.hub_#0002" if i'm not mistaken because now it's already fixed and don't appear anymore. The keyboard worked on FN functions aswell ,like light on(FN+ space) or brighness (fn+f5 or f6) but only that on windows.
if is the case don't bother to replace the keyboard because it's not the keyboard.

What is the problem? it happens because this L23 coil that do noise and mess the signals(called coil throttle).. you can just use 2 wires to replace the coil, the ideal is replace the coil. it needs microscope to solder and dont mess with the others resistors around
the coil is on other side of the mainboard(when you open) under the keyboard connector and near an ITE chip.

            Good luck and good repairs

Thank you for that information, I was able to fix a keyboard by repairing that specific coil. The signal coming out of it was a mess on the oscilloscope as you stated it would most likely be, so thanks again!

                Hi all,

My Lenovo Legion Y540-17IRH is bricked—black screen, Novo button dead after BIOS corruption. The motherboard was upgraded by a Lenovo tech years ago (GTX 1660Ti to RTX 2060Ti). Here's the rundown:

                - Full Machine Model: Lenovo Legion Y540-17IRH Laptop (Lenovo) - Type 81Q4
                - Serial Number: PF1WV4BK
                - Board Model Number: Couldn't find exact number—saw “FY710” near RAM slots, unsure if it's the full identifier due to the upgrade. Let me know if more is needed!

The SPI flash chip is a GigaDevice GD25Q128C (16MB). Using a CH341A programmer on Pop!_OS with flashrom v1.2:
                - Dumped corrupt BIOS: bios_backup.bin (16MB)—powers on with lights, keyboard LEDs, Fn+R triggers recovery mode (no beeps), but no full boot.
                - Flashed Lenovo's BIOS.fd (18MB from bhcn45ww.exe), truncated to 16MB (new_bios_16M.fd)—verified, but no power, no lights.
                - Reflashed bios_backup.bin—back to power, lights, and Fn+R response.

The .fd didn't work, likely not suited for this RTX 2060Ti board. Attached is my original dump .Can someone analyze it and provide a corrected .bin for the GD25Q128C? I'll flash it with:
                sudo flashrom -p ch341a_spi -c "GD25Q127C/GD25Q128C" -w <new_file.bin>

Thanks so much—been fighting this for weeks and need this laptop running again!

EDIT: My apologies, I think I posted this incorrectly and instead should have been a reply to a post? but wasnt quite sure. I do apologize in advance for this if it is wrong.

post merged..next time look for a thread with the name and model, motherboard model of the laptop, and post there, if you can't find it, then make a new thread..
