    HP envy 13-ba0028nb

    Hi all,

Problem description: Laptop has black screen when booting after HP's bios update, bios does not post, pretty sure the bios needs to be flashed again.

Could anyone help me out fixing this backup bios so I can flash it?
Whenever I try to flash the original backup it says the file is too big for the chip's capacity.

You can find the files in the attachments, including signature files if necessary.

I would greatly appreciate any help!

The thing is that there is no bios available on the HP website for this model.
I used the backup feature from the HP bios update tool before updating, these are the files I included in the attachments.

So I would think the original bios is in there.

Sorry if I am misunderstanding this. I would gladly donate to badcaps or buy a coffee (if allowed) for the time and help.

And where's that Original Backup? Because I can't see it in the attached files.

There`s no DMI info in your backups, which is odd. Anyway there are 2 bios you can try https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showpo...57&postcount=5

I don't really see where I can find the original backup. These files are the only files I can find, besides the ones in this attachment.

            The root folders I see are;
            Hewlett-Packard

You got those files from HP website or from where?

You need to take a BIOS Backup from your chip using a SPI Programmer and upload the file here, read this Post to learn more.

Thank you for all the help. I got these files from the HP bios update tool (backup option).
I'll try to do a backup using my SPI programmer, but I think the bios chip is empty though..

Just take a backup and post it here even if it's corrupted, also put some info about your device (Model Number, Serial Number, Motherboard Number and CPU) that will help to get the correct BIOS.

Thank you so much. I will try to retrieve all of that info when I find myself more time. Would've been easier with HWInfo if the laptop just worked, but else I wouldn't be here I guess hehe..

I also saw the announcement about the upkeep costs. Is it possible to get the total upkeep cost PM'd or posted, would be nice to see some progress bar or something to motivate donations even more.

Help Disabling Flash Protection Range Registers on Lenovo P360 Tiny BIOS
                        by abhorsen
                        Hey guys,

Hope you all are doing well. I come here from Win-Raid because I am having issues disabling Flash Protection Range Registers so I can flash my BIOS from within Windows using Intel's IFW tool/using flashrom within Linux, however I cannot due to the above mentioned error.

Here is my thread on Win-Raid detailing the whole process I went through: https://winraid.level1techs.com/t/re...h-gen/95478/27

Essentially I managed to boot into Windows while shorting PINs 1+5 of my audio chip to disable the HAP bit...

Bricked bios from a bad flash/update in a case of NO BACKUP repair question
                        by Shadowtuy
So I'm new here and have successfully unlocked a bios using "RCUnlocker" but after that I'm curious on recovery of a bricked bios from a bad flash/update in a case of NO BACKUP.

The part I'm stuck on is my HP backup are a 32,768KB and 16,384KB image compared to a fresh bios from HP at 23,690KB. How would I use the fresh image to repair a flash chip? The guide I'm following just takes the image and flashes it over but clearly there is more to it.

Just looking to expand my knowledge of this since the password removal worked great. Sorry if I missed this being...

                        🛠️ MSI GP75 Leopard MS-17E71 – No Display, Deep BIOS/EC Troubleshooting
                        by macabook
                        Hello everyone,

I’m currently working on a dead MSI GP75 Leopard (MS-17E71) motherboard (i7 CPU, NVIDIA GPU) with a no display/no backlight issue initially. After extensive investigation, I’m at a critical stage involving EC firmware, BIOS/ME region interaction, and possible deep corruption. I'm seeking advanced insight from anyone with experience in EC/BIOS sync issues or PCH-level behavior. Here’s a full breakdown:
                        🧩 Initial Issue
                        • Board powers on (fans spin, keyboard lights up and can be adjusted, caps lock led lights), but no display or backlight
                        • External display (HDMI) shows
                        ...

WD Sentinel DS5100 (NAS) boot issues
                        by DeanWy
                        Hi all,

I have a Western Digital Sentinel DS5100 NAS system which has stopped working. It has dual BIOS. I bought the system second hand with an already broken primary BIOS (it rebooted multiple times until second BIOS was used).

It worked until recently. The system was idle in Windows Server 2012 and a BSOD occurred, I think it was 'critical process died'. Thereafter it didn't boot, it just sat there with no video output and fan speed at 100% (there's a proprietary Windows driver by WD which controls the fan, outside of that it always runs at 100%).

                        There...

I usually try to figure these things out on my own but am asking for help now as I have been beating my head against a wall.

Backstory, I initially ended up with a CF20 Mk2 with a locked BIOS. I used aptio to read the BIOS and made the adjustments to the .rom file and attempted to write it back with aptio before reading other users problems with that setup. Well it bricked the BIOS go figure. Computer no longer boots, black screen. I found a clean BIOS on this forum but now I am having ME issues. So I would rather hand over the aptio dump(pre BIOS brick) and a hardware reader dump(post...
