    Macbook Air A1304 noob question

    Hi

I'm working on a bare 820-2375-A board and I'm still noob if it comes to mac logic boards repair, but slowly getting there.
Board doesn't power up when magsafe is connected, green light on the charger, all G3H and S5 rails are present. I does turns on when I bridge SMC_ONOFF_L pads. Is this normal behaviour for boards from 2008/2009?

    Thanks in advance.

Yes. It is normal on all such logic boards.

Apple / Foxconn has left these SMD pads onboard to mimic the on/off keypress that would originate from a working keyboard.

Often you will see the tech videos on youtube use tweezers to turn on the logic board.

Review your keyboard / cables / trackpad cabling if you find that the keyboard does not turn on the logic board yet this direct short does.

Re: Macbook Air A1304 noob question

MacBooks with NVidia MCP needs power button to be triggered in order to turn on.
Later Macs with Intel PCH turn on automatically when applying power after battery has been removed.

Thank you both for your replies. Info about nVidia MCP is very helpful!

A noob needs help for Apple Macbook Air M1 2020 A2337 - logic board short circuit
          by Guest
          Hello all!

Recently I've got a broken Macbook Air M1 2020 A2337 of eBay with a broken screen and not turning on issue.

After some tinkering I've found C5201 capacitor to be blown. This is where I hit a wall since I am a total noob in this area and have no idea what else to look for. C5201 is on one line with 3 more capacitors which visually seem ok, but beep on continuity mode and also both sides of all capacitors beep when tested with ground from the board. This to me sounds like a short, but I am not able to find what component is before the capacitors to test it....

Will I have a bricked logic board after reflow of the GPU v-core U8900 chip on my Mid-2012 15" Retina Macbook pro?
          by korben_dallas
Hi everyone! I'm trying to fix my black screen / failed U8900 GPU v-core on my Mid-2012 Macbook Pro 15" Retinaby doing a rework/reflow of the chip (once I determine that's the real issue; but it likely is).

I've been disabling the GPU in NVRAM for a few years... but it's just time for a better solution.

I'm new to soldering but the only feasible way to fix this issue is to do something myself.

          MY QUESTION:
I've been seeing some people (on this forum mostly) run into issues with the logic board needing a serial number or it being deactivated (?)...

M1 A2337 Macbook - No Display, likely due to logic board
          by ledbylight
          Hi all!
This is my first post and also one of my first "deep dives" into electronic repair. I'm used to doing basic tasks with computers, like SSD/CPU replacement, thermal past re-application, etc. So here's the story...
I have a MacBook Air M1 that I bought to repair (I know, I'm weird; though I'm a CompSci major and want to learn more , and it will not display anything on the internal display. I have verified that there's no backlight, as I booted the laptop and shined a flashlight on it and there's no display; it does completely boot up, and shows fine on an external...

A2681 M2 MacBook Air Dead Logic Board
          by yuuki47
          Hello...

My sister purchased an M2 MacBook Air a year and a half ago. While she was using it a week ago, it randomly shut off and no longer powers on. There are no signs of life and not even the MagSafe indicator LED lights up.

We took it to Apple and they disconnected the battery and tried a bunch of stuff before they declared the logic board "brain dead" and quoted us about £567 to replace it. Typical of them...

eBay replacements run about £367 with the Touch ID sensor included.

I did consider to probe the logic board for shorts...

MacBook Pro 2018 with Activation Lock
          by envym
          Hi everyone!

I have a 2018 MacBook Pro (with Sequoia OS) that I've been using for years with no problem. I recently received an M2 MacBook Pro so I'm mostly using it and not the 2018 one, but since a friend of mine needs a computer, I thought I could restore my 2018 and give it brand-new-like to my friend.

I tried using the built-in tool to restore the MacBook (Settings > General > Transfer or restore > Delete) but it got stuck when trying to remove the Find Device configuration (it asked me for the password for my old Apple ID -now I use the same account but...
