    Re: DELL E7440 LA-9591P doesn't detect charger

What are the details of the part you are placing at PD5 ?

    PESD5V0U2BT is being soldered ?

With no part @ PD5, what is the voltage that you are measuring on PL3, pin # 1 ?

It is very strange if a known good ESD diode @ PD5 is burning up.

According to the datasheet, the part is suitable for USB 2.0 and similar interfaces so 5 volts is an ok voltage.

Do you have a trusted vendor / source for this replacement part ? Or was it from a donor board ?

PRP2 = current limit resistor network applied in series. If it is removed, the signals from the battery connector will be removed from the logic board.

Here is a suggestion to try:

                    1) Do not stuff the diode @ PD5 (for now).

                    2) Remove PQ2 mosfet. Now apply the external power adapter connector and measure the voltage on each pin of PQ2. Post the readings.

Do you still have 5 volts on the PS_ID pin ?

PQ2 is acting like a switch to allow / stop the single wire communication line from the external power adapter to the logic board. We want to remove this part to determine the true voltage of the PS_ID pin.

                        Re: latitude e7450 la-a961p

Aside from burning PD5, does the adapter actually charge the battery ?

Can you boot normally if the battery and adapter are connected ?

Does Windows report that the battery is found and is charging ?

The issue may be linked to a defective mosfet from the DC adapter side - worth to test the first 2 mosfets with no power. Meter in resistance mode.

Check the resistance across the mosfet @ PQ4:

                        source & drain
                        source & gate
                        gate & drain

then also check the next mosfet @ PQ700.

                        Post all resistance measurements.

Its best to always use a genuine charger of the same or higher wattage. What was the charger you used previously, was it a HP one

HP chargers should never be used to power dells. The E7450 requires a 65W adapter.

I think that you still have mosfet PQ2 removed from the logic board ?

This is the switch to allow the logic board to detect the power adapter.

By default, if the adapter is not detected or is detected but is a lower power adapter, then the logic board will slow down.

Install back PQ2 and test again. Confirm that the power adapter is 100% the proper rated power for this machine.
