UPDATE:
Replaced the DC-in mosfets and charging IC, and the machine now boots, but only when AC is plugged in. So I managed to fix the AC charging, but the machine turns off when unplugged. The battery charging diode is showing, and the machine seems to detect the battery just fine, but when unplugged, it immediately dies... I have somehow reversed the issues the machine had, when I got it, it would boot fine with only the battery, but would not charge, now the machine boots with AC, and seems to charge, but dies when unplugging it... I'm pulling my hairs out..
EDIT:
Checked battery voltage with MM, and it seems completely dead, even though Windows says 99%, gonna let it be plugged in for a while and check if voltage increases...Last edited by jacobtc; 06-04-2022, 10:57 AM.Leave a comment:

Yea i do not understand it too maybe not good charging ic. Or the first and second mosfets are bad because ac drive should be 25 v . If you don't have a short what it can pull down at signal i would think maybe a bad replacement ic if you soldered right. I would track down that signalto the first and second mosfet gates.

Okay, I'm back after meassuring stuff.
Did measurements on the new mosfets at the charging IC area, both on and off the board. I also did diode reading on S-D, and both mosfets came back with 0V when on board, but 0.4V when off the board, is that normal? Checked the mosfets at the DC-in area, and they both came back at 0.6V on the board.
Resoldered the charging IC area mosfets, and they again came back at 0V. Did a diode check on the pads underneath the mosfets, and they also came back at 0V, is that the culprit or?
OH yeah, and about the "non-readings" at the DC-in mosfets... turned the probes arund, and they gave me 4.6Mohm and 5Mohm then.
Before I desolder the DC-in mosfets, I just wanted to ask about this first, they do seem fine checking in diode mode, and I haven't touched them, and the laptop turned on fine, before I touched the charging IC area and surrounding mosfets, which is why I doubt they could be the culprit.Last edited by jacobtc; 05-21-2022, 08:51 AM.Leave a comment:

Do you have more replacement mosfets for the pair near the dc adapter connector?
Measure each while they are out of circuit to compare with the earlier measurements. Post the readings.
The concern is with the one reading of each where the value could not be measured. Is the reading so high for the meter scale or maybe an open circuit?
Mosfets are ESD sensitive so be sure to be grounded while working with them.

The second DC-IN mosfet only outputs that 4.2V, but resistance on those two mosfets checks out fine according to user "mon2".Leave a comment:

yOU DIDNT MENTIONED VOLTAGE ON ACN/ACP pins. I think its zero on pin1-2-3. In other words, voltage is not paasing out from dc-in mosfets. Have you checked them for short??Leave a comment:

Maybe the center ground pad is not making it to the PCB surface ? Usually we use tweezers to push down to squish the IC a bit to force the connection. Just be careful to not let the IC slide. Otherwise, very nice soldering of the QFN packaged device.
Just know from being on the XMOS forum - their audio ICs had this as a #1 issue - key clients of their silicon could not get their protos working. Each time, it was the CENTER pad that was not mating with the PCB surface.Leave a comment:

Your ACOK = 6v so I think you are ok with this charger IC....wait.. do you not have a resistor based voltage divider to lower this voltage for ACOK ?
Were any surrounding parts disturbed or replaced ? Not sure if ACOK should be this high of a value..often the value should be lower, perhaps ~3v.

It seems like all the laptops I get are dead G14's. I already had two, in which one was fixable, and one wasn't. This one is different though, I promise!
The previous owner used it without a screen, as the panel was dead, and suddenly it just died.
The board looks fine, no visually burnt components as I can see.
I do not get a short on the DC-In mosfets, however as I had with one of my other machines, the first mosfet does not seem to let voltage through, so the second mosfet does not receive 20V. (See pic).
Only the BQ chip... -
