Dell Inspiron 15 33308 random shutdown

Hello i got this laptop that have problem with random shuting down. It can work for several hours and then it turn itself down and sometimes work only few minutes. Laptop came without battery.
    Things that i try:
Clean it and change thermal paste
    Change power adapter
Test hard drive - replace it with other one
    Test memeory with memtest
Test temp. - not getting too hot (max 60 C)
    Flash newest bios

Also i check MB for some liquid spill but nothing, MB is very clean

Can someone help me or have any idea what to do next?

Hello. Random issues are sometime called thermal issues. You can search with hot air (and freeze bomb) by zones on the MB. And if you find zone, you can press with plastic pen for find bad solder.

Use Core Temp to rule out CPU getting too hot. But if that is fine, you'll likely have a cracked solder joint somewhere on a passive component. Under a microscope, use a pair of tweezers to nudge the passive components around each buck convertor, paying attention to components on the opposite side of the board for the IC. The plastic housings of some of these machines allow the board to flex and twist so look more toward 1/3 from each side of the board (where twisting forces are at their greatest).

I had this on a Dell previously where a cap had cracked the joint so was only touching really. This instantly killed the 1.8V supply in that case when it was disturbed.

I measured again the cpu and it is not hot, i even check with my finger on the cooler and it is not hot.
When i tok the board outside case and power laptop i try to poke it with plastic and try to press and i try to gently twist board but it kept working. I the last test i leave laptop to run for several hours and when i came back it was off. All settings are set to “never” go to sleep, hybertnate etc.

Replace the caps for 3.3V/5V coil with 330uf smd cap. Flash clean me bios. Check again for any result.

I reflash the latest A17 bios firmware but no help. And what caps do you mean? The SMD or SMD electrolytic cap?
Voltages on electrolytic caps are 5.3V and 3.44V is this wrong. The 5V line?

Hey on my board I have a step-down controller 5V/3.3V that produces wrong 5V output (it is 5.3V) The par number is: TPS51225.
Can I use TPS51225C and will it work, don't know the difference between TPS51225 and TPS51225C

                    also here is the schematic

Re: Dell Inspiron 15 33308 random shutdown

                      The schematic uses TPS51225RUKx version.

The TPS51225C will have BOTH, the 3v3 and 5v0 LDO rails always on. These are the fixed regulators, not the switching power supplies with the inductors.

The original, TPS51225RUK, has only the 3v3 LDO enabled for always ON.

Recommend to source the original version from a donor board or offshore from AliExpress.

Otherwise, the battery may deplete sooner due to rails not allowing for sleep mode, etc.

For testing, it should be fine to use the TPS51225C version in your toolbox.

I mean PT4501/4502 specifically. Replace them with 330uf tantalum caps.

i replaced it with 330uF caps but still, it shut down randomly (cca 10-15 min). And when it shouts down I need to reconnect the charger to be able to start it again.

Well after some time still the same issue, i tested one again PU4503 and i find out that if i try to measure PWR_3D3V_FB2 or PWR_3D3V_FB1 laptop shut down immediately. After that, the voltage is 2V on that pins (i think there should be 3V). Any idea what to check next?
Also, i noticed when it shutdown itself i lose 3V on PS_ID (in input jack). When reconnect charger i get 3V again
Today laptop was working for several hours and then shut down.

Today arrived new battery. So I find that the charging is not working and I think this is related to the shutdown issue. I check the HPA02224RGRR IC (PU4404)

Perhaps heat is at play. When you are changing bios chip, fair amount of heat is applied to desolder/solder the bios chip. Try replacing the caps around charging IC with exact same value as per schematics. I faced this issue on HP LA-A992P mb where charging works for about 30 seconds to 2 mins and then dc jack turns white. I replaced all the caps around charging IC and dc-in fets and its working for more than a year now.
