Most likely you are not using a good genuine Apple Magsafe2 85W cable.

Now that i think of it you "as always" likely nailed it, I use a bench supply and for this board ran it at 18.5v but have no idea what model of charger i stole that lead from as it did that when i was starting out so guess it was from a 45/65w not a 85W.
