HP pavilion 17-e101sl motherboard no turning on

    Laptop Hp: 17-e101sl
    motherboard: DA0R63MB6F1
    REV: F

    Hi everyone,
I've a problem with this motherboard. At first, I have replaced the diode on the input of board because was shorted and now it's possible to have 19.5v. I've checked the entire rail of 19.5v and is it ok, checked the 3.3v on the bios chip and it's present as well as on the SIO chip and on the power on button. When I press that button, the voltage goes from 3.3v to 0 but the motherboard won't start. ACDET pin on PU5 BQ738 is 2.7v.The laptop doesn't have the battery.
Can it be a bios or SIO chip problem?
    Could someone help me please?
    Many thanks.

    Check PU6 pin 13 & 15 for voltage.Pin4 & 20 for PU5. Check pin 9/67/93/95/127/76/65.
Do check LID SWitch. These are basic steps to check. Let us see your readings and then we'll proceed further. Flash known good bios.

PU6, pin15 is PowerGood and its pulled from AC_IN signal. Check whether you have it on pin5 of charging IC(PU5) as well as pin16 for REGN voltage. RSMRST# is missing on SIO-On some mb's it appears after switching but AFAIK it should be present before power on on this platform.

If you have 3V on pin5 of PU5, proceed to replace PU6.

Re: HP pavilion 17-e101sl motherboard no turning on

I've another identical motherboard just for spare parts that powers on and checked:
          PU6
          pin15 →0v

          PU5
          pin5 → 3v
          pin16 →6.05v

Those voltages are the same on the motherboard that won't power on.
          Have I to replace PU6?

PU6 pin15 must be 3V. The other board too have defective PU6-so replacing it from that mb wont help.

              Ok.
I've bought the new pu6 (g5934).I'll let you know as soon as I get and replace it.
              Thanks.

                Hi mcplslg123,
I've replaced PU6 with a new one, but the motherboard doesn't power on.
Checked PU6 pins but the voltages are as the previous:

                PU6
                pin20 →19.5v
                pin15 →0v
                pin13 →12.3v

                PU5
                pin20 →19.7v
                pin4 → 25.4v
                pin5 → 3v
                pin16 →6v

Check LIDSW# pin on SIO if you cant locate LID Switch.Dc jack light is stable and glowing?? Do you have dc power supply?? If yes, then what is the consumption in off stae?? Any change in dc reading when you try to turn on??Have you checked RTC circuit?? Next need to check Power Good signal.

Sorry, but i can't locate LIDSW pin on SIO.
Dc jack is stable and glowing. On off state the consumption is 0.02 Amps, when I try to turn on it is 0.04 Amps. How can i check the RTC circuit?
                    I've attached some pics.

Pin25 EMU_LID & Pin127 LID_EC# on kbc. Locate jumper J1 & J2 and check them with a good cmos cell inserted but no power connected. What is the reading on both these jumpers?? The J1/J2 jumper is for RTC circuit check. Since there is slight change in dc reading, it could be RTC fault.

                        pin25 EMU_LID→0V
                        pin127 LID_EC#→3.37V

                        J1→2.36V
                        J2→0V
I've Checked capacitor c905 on RTC section and it is short to ground; checked the same cap on the spare motherboard and it is no short.
I think that c905 is damaged and i have to replace it.

ok, replaced c905, now the readings are:
                        J1→2.64v
                        j2→2.64v
but the motherboard doesn't power on.

Nice to see you fixed RTC fault. Voltage at J1/J2 seems fine now-so we can assume more or less that RTC section is fine though there are many other things to check on RTC but we left that for now.

AFAIK, EMU_LID is just another name of LIDSW#. If that is correct it must be 3V. You need to find out where the lidswitch is located. Most likely on powerbutton board. BTW, you are turning on the mb with power switch connected?? If yes, then remove the power switch board and check EMU_LID voltage again.

Oops, it seems like LID_EC# is what is popularly called LIDSW# and that;s reaching the SIO. So everything seems fine with LIDSWitch.

Check ECRST on pin37/AC_IN on pin76/RSMRST# on pin95/EC_PWROK on pin93/HWPG on pin14 of SIO. Notice the change,if any, on NBSWON#/DNBSWON# pins of SIO while triggering the mb. IS there any change in consumption on your dc supply before/after switch on??
