    Re: Unable to Locate Power Supply Chip on HP Elitebook 840 G3

    guys, has anyone been able to revise my readings? does a beep on the coil means a short... and why is it beeping if I get readings of 5ohms? Finally, how to find a short on a board this big. Can I inject voltage with a power supply? can I do that at one end of the coil and see what gets hot?
    any help appreciated

    here are my readings (pictures attached if you zoom in you can see the number for each coil) if not let me know I have pictures with microscope.
    L60000 = 40k
    L60300 = 177 ohms
    L63320 = 5 and BEEPS
    L66310 = 5 ohms BEEPS
    L60500 = 60 ohms
    L60200 = 19k
    L60100 = 038.7k
    L66010 = 5 ohms BEEPS
    L66610 = 15 OHMS (BEEPS)
    l60800 = 33 OHMS
    l60600 = 25K

    L60000 = 173 mv
    L60300 = 0
    L63320 = 0
    L66310 = 0
    L60500 = 0
    L60200 = 5v
    L60100 = 3.3v
    L66010 = 0
    L66610 = 0
    l60800 = 1V
    l60600 = 1.8v

    So basically I'm guessing at this point.
    Correct. So will everyone else but start with:

    1) take clear and zoomed up pix of the logic board. Use another phone if required but the pix must be clear so we can all review the markings on the parts. Post them here.

    2) unplug your power adapter from this logic board -> meter in resistance mode (200 ohms is good). Then locate each and every inductor on the logic board. Often they are the honker grey square shaped parts with 2 large (wide) solder pads - sometimes you can see the magnet wire, sometimes they are shielded and will be solid grey in body.

    Red meter on the coil (either side is ok).

    Black to ground - locate a metal shield on the logic board.

    Post the resistance for each found coil.

    3) meter in DC volts mode. Black lead to ground.

    Red lead to each coil.

    Apply the power adapter.

    Post the voltage reading on each found coil.

    The above is a start. More help can be supplied once we know the DC-DC buck convertor that is a fancy name for a power supply IC that lowers the input voltage from your power adapter.

    Does that work to spec ?

    You may find that you have some part that is shorted (from the resistance checks we can have a good idea) - sometimes it is a polarized tantalum cap that is causing an excessive current event from the short -> power supply will shutdown and logic board remains off.

    I know that info... the problem is that the diagram is for HP Elitebook 840 G2 and my laptop is G3. One generation after. I have not being able to find this schematic. So basically I'm guessing at this point.

  • Unable to Locate Power Supply Chip on HP Elitebook 840 G3

    I have an HP Elitebook 840 G3, which is not powering on. So I follow troubleshooting steps by verifying voltage.
    19V are present on the board.
    I have 2.3V at power button. I think it should be 3V.
    According to the schematic that power should come from power supply
    3 and 5V on page 8. (3 VREG OF U6100)
    The problem is that I can't find U6100 on the board. I don't have boardview and the schematic is of elitebook 840 G2.
    could someone suggest what to do next?

    Guide to transplant MEC1503 EC chip and EEPROM reprogamming for T14s gen 2 and X13 gen 2
    by acedogblast
    This is a guide that I am writing for helping others to replace their MEC1503 EC chip if it breaks (or to get around an inconvenient prompt to the BIOS). This forum has been extremely helpful to me so I would like to contribute to help others. I will tell you right now that this task is very difficult to do. You MUST have experience and tools to do precision micro-soldering, BGA reballing, trace repair, and general laptop repair skills.

    There are some specialty tools needed to do this task. The replacement MEC1503 chips can be acquired from Aliexpress. Do not buy the bare chips as...

    ASRock B650M PRO RS - BIOS CHIP 25Q256JW BLOCKED BY STATUS REGISTERS
    by DynaxSC
    Hi

    I have a very strange issue with the BIOS SPI chip of an ASRock B650M PRO RS motherboard.
    The SPI chip is an Winbond 25Q256JWEQ model (1V8).
    The motherbaord doas not POST - it lits only CPU and DRAM EZ Debug Leds, and stays that way forever.
    The Flashback function of the motherbaord is also not working, despite all instructions followed correctly - I'm 100% sure of this.

    I have then desoldered the chip, backupped the contents, and tried to earease the chip in order to program stock image, but the chip is locked by status registers SREG2 (TB) and SREG6...

    Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?
    by Tynan Dill
    I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

    Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

    I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

    The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

    With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

    Assuming...

    Elitebook 840 G5 Bios Chip Soldering Question
    by Azurain
    Hi everyone,

    I have an HP Elitebook 840 G5 that I am trying to get working again. I've removed the front bios chip (the 32mb one) and have run it through HP unlocker already. I've uploaded and verified the new bin, but am now experiencing an issue that has led me to believe I've been soldering the chip back to the motherboard incorrectly.

    Essentially, after re-soldering the chip back into its place and reassembling the laptop, the charging light immediately flashes orange and white and then shifts to a solid white. The capslock and numlock lights blink seven times...

    Desoldering gun station modified to use a 18 volt @ 20 amp switching power supply
    by sam_sam_sam
    I have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump

    One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy...
