HP Pavilion 15-ab291sa Unusual Power Issue

    Hi all

    I have a HP Pavilion 15-ab291sa.
I'm hoping someone out there has come across this issue before.

The laptop turns on when the AC adapter is plugged in and the fan immediately starts on full blast.
A message appears on post that a system fan has malfunctioned and the computer will turn off in 15 seconds to avoid damage, hit enter to continue setup.

So with the fan clearly on I had no qualms hitting enter and seeing what happened. nothing the keyboard is not working.

plugged in an external keyboard and the laptop boots up loads windows fine (the fan is still on full this whole time btw)

Popped the back off and reset the BIOS. no joy
    Updated the BIOS no joy.

When i disconnect the integrated keyboard the issue goes away, fan spins normally and the laptop starts up and works fine.

So the issue is if i plug in the integrated keyboard not only does the keyboard not work but if you plug in the power adapter it, starts the laptop and causes the system to display a fan error, plus the fan is full on all the time.

FYI the power button on this laptop is NOT on the keyboard.

If you've ever heard of or experienced this issue i'd like to know if it's worth replacing the keyboard or this is more likely a board issue?

(the keyboard is part of the palm rest so it's not the cheapest component to buy)

Hmm.. It might be mb issue. Check KBC chip, kbd connector pins for corrosion or any track damage in between them. If everything seems ok on mb, then its kbd which is bad.

820-02020 Super Weird Issue: Keyboard Input Character Map "Wrong"?
      by ugamazing
So, I have a really bizarre issue that I'm struggling to identify the cause of. Working on an 820-02020 board with some bizarre keyboard/input-source character mapping. My suspicion is a possible damaged SPI ROM (U1970), perhaps, but I'm really not sure in this case:

      1. The issue is pretty weird, but when installing MacOS, I noticed my WiFi password did not work. I quickly realized the special characters (!@#$%^& etc) were not mapping correctly.

      2. I noticed the keyboard layout/input-source is defaulting to JAPANESE every single time I restore the board. I am not...

Dell G15 5515 RGB Keyboard Not Detected (Compatible Keyboard, Possible BIOS/EC Issue?)
      by NotEnough
      Hi everyone,

I'm working on a Dell G15 5515 (Ryzen 7 5800H, RTX 3050 Ti) and recently installed a compatible 4-zone RGB keyboard and controller (for Dell G15 5510/5511/5515 models). While the keyboard functions for typing, the RGB lighting is not detected by Alienware Command Center (AWCC), which displays “No AlienFX devices found.”

      What I've Tried So Far:
      • Reseated the cables.
      • Reinstalled AWCC and AlienFX services.
      • Attempted BIOS downgrade but no improvement.
      • Inspected ribbon cables for damage.
      • Explored the possibility of BIOS or
