Samsung NP270E5E starts but won't boot

    Hi guys
I have this Samsung NP270E5E here. I was given this as 'unknown condition' and minus the HDD and RAM

I got a DIMM fitted but it would not start (blank screen) though it was drawing about 0.9A from the PSU

I dismantled it and without doing anything it starts up every time now (still draws about 0.9A)

I fitted a HDD and put a Windows 7 installation CD in the optical drive - The laptop has a Windows 8 sticker on the bottom so obviously that was the original OS but I don't have a Windows 8 disk (yeah I know I can download an ISO and make one)

I wanted to give this laptop to the missus who prefers Windows 7 anyway so want to install that.

However on power up it says there are no boot devices detected. It then lists Windows Boot Manager, the HDD and the Optical drive but selecting the optical drive it won't boot and returns to the list of devices

Thinking maybe the optical drive is faulty I took the SSD and put it in my desktop PC and installed windows 7 on it no problem. I then put the SSD back in the laptop thinking it would at least boot, even if it complained about wrong drivers etc, but NO. It still says there is no boot device. It is obviously seeing the SSD and Optical drive are there.

    Any suggestions

    Rich

It's in UEFI only mode. Use a UEFI installation media or enable CSM/Legacy Boot in setup.
