    Hp envy 15-ae (la-c503p)

    Hi,

I am after some advice on the repair of a HP Envy 15-AE..

    Charger Power Light is on.

    19V - On The board
3.2V - On The Battery output.

Please Note I am in the early stages of learning how to repair motherboards.

I have found a visually blown what I believe to be a smd capacitor. I would like to replace it but I am not sure how to find out what I need to replace it with as I don't have the motherboard schematics.

    Can anyone help?

I have attached the image of the blown SMD capacitor which is next to the UT3

have you measured using multimeter for shorts on that capacitor?

      Hi,

      Well I think I have...

No continuity between the two points, and only one side goes direct to ground.

Yes indeed, one going to ground and one going to positive rails and in your case that capacitor considered as normal. Are you measured 3.2v on battery output with battery installed or without battery installed?

          With the battery out only.

How do I find out what capacitor was in place so I can replace it?

            Try visit ftp://helpedia.com/pub/temp/ for schematics

            It's from https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=26840

Thanks for the link. I have already has a look but I can't find anything under the model number or the motherboard part number.

              Any other suggestions?

As far as I am aware there is no schematic for this yet. Only bios is available.
What is the number written on the U1 chip, its hard to make out from the picture.
P.S I see your'e in Manchester, I'm in Chadderton, North of Manchester.

Nice to see a fellow Mancunian.

It's not the chip that needs replacing but the capacitor on the left hand side. You will notice it's missing - it's look likes it's blown.

Maybe I should take a guess?

If the chip can be identified then could get hold of a datasheet and there would be a schematic of that chip and the peripheral components.

Never thought of that. You learn something new everyday.

I have tried my best to get the number of it but it's not that easy.

                      I think it says: 54B1J or S4B1J or 6B1J or 1 might be a I

Just had a good look under the microscope and it looks like: 5481j

found BLOWN coil L10 and shorted one of its lead. injecting reveal shorted big capacitor just near blown coil. when replaced capacitor and coil battery is charging, but only when off. I see damaged power connector and 19V surelly hit PS_ID. There is no schem for this machine. I see few boards with just same fault, so it can be problem on this boards
