Dear all, I own a Lenovo Thinkpad L560 that suffered water damage. I cleaned the laptop completely and replaced the defective motherboard. Besides that, the keyboard was malfunctioning and the display cable to the LCD so I ordered new ones and replaced both.
Now the strange part... When I plug in the AC adaptor, the power button LED turns green immediately. This is not normal behaviour. The red LED in the Thinkpad logo on the lid turns red (this is normal because the laptop is charging).
When I push the power button, nothing happens. The laptop boots in the end, but I have the push the power button like 3 times. It also boots when I press the power button for 2-3 seconds and then let go of it. The laptop boots to Windows 10 just fine and I can do whatever I want, all functionality is OK.
When I shut down the OS, the system fans stops and the system seems to have shut down, only the green LED of the power button stays lit.
What I tried so far:
- unplugged BIOS battery for 2-3 minutes
- performed a BIOS reset to factory settings
- BIOS upgrade to latest revision
The problem is not OS related because I can easily unplug the SSD drive and the issues are the same (except for the fact that I cannot boot to Windows of course..)
It seems that the power button is shorted when I plug in the AC adaptor? I measured the pins of the DC connector on the mainboard. Pins 1 and 2 short, 3 and 4 also. Between the 2 pairs, I measure a steady 20.4V
This is my first post on this forum, I think I've read all rules good. Thanks in advance for all your tips and advice!
John
