    HP Probook 4515s All USB Ports not working.

    Hi

    I have a Probook 4515s here which had broken USB ports... They were so broken all the pins were shorting to ground.

    Checked the controller chips for the USB power they are all GOOD. 5v GOOD
    BUT the moment you plug in a device nothing happens.
    On the scope I see the D-(3.3V) Gets pulled HIGH once you plug something in but D+ doesn't.

    I traced the circuit but there doesn't seem to be much in between as they are strapped directly onto the South Bridge ports.

    So I wondered if anyone has any ideas... apart from faulty South Bridge. (I don't have the tools to replace that yet...)

    first remove the shorts. as long as the pins are shorted, do not connect any USB device to them.

      Caspian. Hi.

      Yes I have removed/Replaced the physical ports. I forgot to add that to the first post. time ran out to edit the post... Anyways the shorts are gone the ports are physically GOOD and getting the following.

      UNPLUGGED
      VCC = 5V
      D- = 60mV (In LOW State)
      D+ = 60mV (In LOW State)
      GND = GND

      DEVICE PLUGGED IN
      VCC = 5V
      D- = 3.3V
      D+ = 60mV (LOW STATE Semi noisy...)
      GND = GND

        replace L25 if you have another one.

          Will try that in a moment and report back.

          To add. On one port that component(Similar to L35 - inductor/ferrite bead/filter) was totally broken off the board, replaced it.
          Tested the continuity on the Lxx components for each Port and they are fine, Ohms are 1.3 they are all the same.
          But ill replace them for the sake of it anyways.

          ANother EDIT:
          Following this
          The Resistances are then a bit too high... Ill have to test them out of circuit aswell... The Ohm test above is in circuit.

          FINAL EDIT:
          Replaced all the Lxx components for each USB Port. No Difference. Same remains D+ don't getting pulled High once you plug in a device. I'm going to go ahead and assume its on the South Bridge side.

              Yeah I'm going with that as well.... I hate that people (clients) can't think that when they break USB ports the longer they use the laptop the more damage it causes while shorting out.... Its like clients that switch a laptop on after they spilled liquid on it
