    Asus GL502VT - faulty capacitor?

    Hi all,

I've searched the forum for this model and couldn't find anything.

Please could someone look at the attachment and advise if this is indeed a capacitor as I suspect.

I suspect it to be a capacitor and I have probed for continuity between ground and both sides of the cap and I get a constant beep on both.

    My questions:-

    1. If it is a capacitor then it should only beep momentarily and start charging right? This is the case with similar looking SMD components around it.

    2. If it is failed, how would I go about finding a value to replace it?

    Regards,

you have to measure in ohms to see if a capacitor is shorted or not. If you get 0 ohms there is a net short, then desolder it and try it out of the pcb. If, on the other hand, the measurement is a few ohms and not in a short net, it may be that the capacitor is in series to a circuit with strong currents such as the line feeding the cpu or gpu.
A condenser if it beep for a few seconds and then stops means that it is charging or a parallel capacitor in parallel with large capacities that are being jammed. Desolder from the circuit and try it.
For replace you need a schematic for find info.
You can try without capacitor temporarily

Depends where on the laptop it is then an educated guess can be made.
      25V 1uf or 10uf if it's on the 19v rail.
