Dell Latitude 830 - Switched polarity accidentally

Came in a simple fix, there was a break in the power cable somewhere and while cutting it and shorting it, I accidentally switched polarity and Laptop does not turn on anymore.

From what I seen so far chip MAX8731AE Battery Charger is visibly damaged. My question is, is it worth taking further look, what else could be damaged, or is this a point with no return?

    I would appreciate any thoughts.

It could be your only issue. It depends on whether the other MOSFETs let the current pass through or not. You could try to replace the charger IC and see if it fixes your problem. If it doesn't, well, for this relatively old computer it may not be a good choice to invest time into it.

main power issue is worth repair, because it is easy circuit. u can even jump it

it is charger ic, two mosfets and few capacitors resistors or transistors
