    820-2327 trackpad cant click.

When the trackpad is plugged in you can't click on anything even with an external mouse. If I unplug the track pad and external mouse works but the keyboard stops.

This machine has some visible water damage.

I thought the Q5701 was bad but is think it is working properly bringing BUTTON_DISABLE to ground when not asleep if I read the schematic correctly I have the board view file and the schematic.

I was surprised the keyboard didn't work when the trackpad was unplugged is that normal for this board?

I would be happy if I could just have the kbd work with and external mouse.

So what are you plugging your track pad into. Is the keyboard external or internal?

The Internal Keyboard does not work when the internal trackpad is unplugged.

When the internal trackpad is plugged in you can't left click on anything even if you try using and external mouse.

I all ready cleaned the board I can post some close ups of the areas that had visible damage before i cleaned them but I didn't take a over all picture then.

Here are some pictures. I didn't see any water damage on the backside.

After had cleaned the water damage an external mouse now does click. I would still like to make the laptop 100% working. track pad still does not click and does not click with a known working trackpad.

I take it that this track pad is in a Apple computer? I do not know a lot about Apple computers, but in a PC you can enable and disable the touch pad. I do not know if this would be the case, but it could be a easy fix. Otherwise maybe one of these Apple techs will be able to help you.

It is most likely damage on the motherboard. If it is a resistor of something I might be able to replace it. I was hoping someone would be able to confirm or deny that my reading of the voltage level on the mosfet was correct and might be able to pint in the right direction after that

So what voltage is Q5701 at with the lid open? Is this the only problem or is the keyboard not working also?

3.42 on SMC_LID_LC when is is open. On pin1 and 0v on button disable pin3 but I think that is what should be there if i read it correct but I am shakey on transitors states I never seem to get them straight

You are understanding this correctly. If you look on the data sheet it will tell you the operation. This is a FET not really a transistor. So when the lid is open and pin 1 is 3.42 volt what is your voltage reading on pin 3? Also, is the internal keyboard working or not? Also, the Zip file on the laptop is a BRD file and I have no way of opening it, could it be converted to another file?

The reading on pin 3 is zero. the keyboard works as long as the trackpad is plugged in, but I didn't think that was required.

So this is a problem with 0 Volts on pin 3 when the lid is open. This has to have a voltage on it to bring to ground when the lid closes. You might want to verify on the micro controller that the disable for the track pad is also o volts. Then I would check out the VDD voltages to the micro controller and the and the clock frequency. The attach is the pin out and operation of the micro controller. If you do not find the voltage on this chip then I would start verifying all the voltages on the track pad power supply

Thank You I will look at that. That makes more sense that it shorts to ground when the Gate is low(lid closed)

                                    Re: 820-2327 trackpad cant click.

This may be a software problem. I have been reading about this on the Web. They talk about using the Utility Disk to repair permissions. Below is what I got from another site. It would be good if one of the software people on this site would help you to verify that the software is working correctly. As I said, I do not have a lot of experiences with Apple Computers. I know the trackpad has a debug mode and test points and logic flow chart. There may be a disk the developer created that will go out and measure Voltages, frequencies and report back to the laptop.

                                    Disk Utility
                                    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
                                    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at the top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
                                    3. Click the First Aid tab.
                                    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
                                    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

                                    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214

Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.

I am 99% sure it is not a software problem. I haven't tried reseting the SMC and PRAM tho.

The mouse button doesnt work before you load the os. Holding the option key while turning on the laptop gets you to a boot menu that you can use eitehr the keyboard or mouse to choose your boot device and I can't click even on that.

But I will double check those items

Have you ran the hardware diagnostic test? I guess one holds down the D key while booting up. Here is a link explaining what to do. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201257
