Re: 12" Macintosh Monochrome CRT monitor
I will check that. The monitor was running inside a plexiglass box and looks like it was overheating....

Re: 12" Macintosh Monochrome CRT monitor
The ohm measurement is infinite. I popped the top off the component and there is 2 metal pads whatever was between them looks burnt to a crisp. like a lump of carbon
all of the resistors and caps have marking next to them but nothing next to this....Last edited by Larry Offley; 05-12-2016, 06:24 PM.

Re: 12" Macintosh Monochrome CRT monitor
numbers on the board
630-0001-a
820-0258-e (that looks like the board numbers they still use)
it says apple computer systems on the board...

Re: 12" Macintosh Monochrome CRT monitor
I was able to source another 12" Monochrome Macintosh monitor that works. And got the Installation ready for opening. I would still like to fix the other one as a backup though. If anyone has a schematic for it that would be helpful.
Thanks

Re: 12" Macintosh Monochrome CRT monitor
12" macintosh monochrome monitor
the part is right behind the power plug, the the Hot side of the plug first goes thru a large resistor then to this.
This is an old monitor the only reason I am trying to fix it is it is parts of a display for a museum and can't easily be replaced
the fuse is intactLast edited by Larry Offley; 05-05-2016, 07:17 PM.

no power I get nothing over 3v much past the plug. there was a small white cube that look very melted. no marking on it. seems to have infinite resitance.

Re: 820-2327 trackpad cant click.
As I said before It is like this before the os boots and even booting off a known working os. One of the things that make determining SW vs HW on the mac is the fact it is so easy to boot a diffrent clean os.

Re: 820-2327 trackpad cant click.
A known working trackpad does the same thing. It is probably that usb cntrlr that the trackpad connects too. If I can find a replacement on a dead board I might try changing it with my hot air station its is already broken so I can make it worse as far as i am concerned...

Re: 820-2327 trackpad cant click.
Like I said I already tried a known working trackpad and I get no error from the AHT software. I am 90% sure it is a component on the board. I seems at this point to be that the button latches on the down and never releases on up. so that after the first press the computer believes the hardware is depressed until the machine has been reset.

Re: 820-2327 trackpad cant click.
There is not a test like that in the apple diag. ON a mac if you hold the option key down when you turn it on you get a graphic boot menu normally you can use the track pad to click on what item you want to boot from. So at that point you are using the builtin firmware. It doesn't work there or if i boot off a known working os install off one of my external hdd.
Sure the firmware could be bad. that would be in the SMC and that would be a nightmare to change.
Thank You for all your help but I think I...

Re: 820-2327 trackpad cant click.
I know it is not a driver as the problem exists before the os loads.

Re: 820-2327 trackpad cant click.
The Apple Diag passed no problem.
I received it like this and When I opened it I could tell there was liquid damage.
I am going to look through my dead boards pile to see if I have another one. Might be better off using parts from this to fix a different one....

Re: 820-2327 trackpad cant click.
at 200ohm range it is open both ways at 20M ohm range i get 10M and 6M the other so no short.
I did some more testing and did find the track pad does click but latches down so when you release the button the computer still thinks it is depressed. I starting to think the maybe something internal to the U5701 usb controller. Or if something in the SMC is registering the depress but not the release.
ANy Ideas?
Thank You for your help....

Ok with the machine off there should be no connection from drain to source?
I will check...

Re: 820-2327 trackpad cant click.
I am 99% sure it is not a software problem. I haven't tried reseting the SMC and PRAM tho.
The mouse button doesnt work before you load the os. Holding the option key while turning on the laptop gets you to a boot menu that you can use eitehr the keyboard or mouse to choose your boot device and I can't click even on that.
But I will double check those items

Thank You I will look at that. That makes more sense that it shorts to ground when the Gate is low(lid closed)...

Re: 820-2327 trackpad cant click.
The reading on pin 3 is zero. the keyboard works as long as the trackpad is plugged in, but I didn't think that was required.
Sorry here is the board view program also...

Re: 820-2327 trackpad cant click.
3.42 on SMC_LID_LC when is is open. On pin1 and 0v on button disable pin3 but I think that is what should be there if i read it correct but I am shakey on transitors states I never seem to get them straight
