Dell inspiron N7010 won't turn on

    Hello guys.

I have a problem with my Dell inspiron N7010.
When I want to turn it on, it doesn't work.

When I push the power button, the led power turns on for a second then the led battery blinks once.
I tried to find the "led code" on internet to diagnose, but I didn't find for this model.

I have already tried a CMOS, new charger. I took off the memory and no sound at start up, even without the bios battery no sound
I disassembled the laptop and tried the power plug. It looks fine.

I don't know what to do, if you have some advise to tell me

    Best regards.

I tried another CPU, and it doesn't work.
It will be very helpful (I think) to find the led code, but on dell website i didn't find it

        Ok.

I found a shematic, I will try to find it or to find something.
I have never done that before, I don't have very good skills in electronic, but I will try.

          Its ok.
          Take out the cpu.
Set DMM on continuity and probe on coils via ground.

If you find a coil that beeps then tell us what marking its got.
Just cook it! It's already broken.

I don't know if what I did it right.

            I took a picture.
I tried all components encircled. I hope there is no more coil on the motherboard, but to be fair I am not sure.
So I tried both side of each. So, with a black circle no beep, and purple circle, all beep.

Re: Dell inspiron N7010 won't turn on

I put my multimeter on Ohm meter and probeb all coils (I hope). I probeb all coils called PLx (X for a number) that I could see in the schematic.

If was there a short, I should find 0 ohm or 0.001 ohms.
The lowest coils has 32 ohms and the higher has more than 2Mohms. So all coils should be ok?

              I attached my shematic

Re: Dell inspiron N7010 won't turn on

continuity its when the dmm Beeps.
caps for instance beep on one side because they are connected to ground.

so if you probe a cap it needs to beep on one side then other NO.

for instance there are FET`s that are connected to ground as a pull down Voltage.

but most of the time you find the short eder on coils , fets or caps.

if you don`t find any short on coils or fets and you find short on caps UNDER PCH or GPU then bga work its required. (thats where i stop cuz i don`t have any xp)

I need to go further in my research. I think, if I know how to read an laptop schematic should help me a lot. Because I have some problems to link the pages.

A lot of coils on the pcb beeps but maybe only one component is short and this one link a lot component to the ground. I need to probe to the beginning of the schematic, but I don't know exactly where to start. From the power, but I have some problem to follow. I will try to understand how to.

But thanks a lot, I learnt something. Perhaps I should find another pcb with a easier problem, this one is maybe too hard for me.

first rule on probing coils its to take cpu out.

lets say if you got a short on the gpu coil then you need a bga station.

but the cpu you can take it out.

every coil got a marking aside. write in pdf on search bar and it takes you.

here on forum you tell us what coil its shorted and we all look and say what wrong there. what to look for. what can be wrong.

for instance if you desolder a coil a short must be on ONE side.

the hard part is to identify the side. where it goes then we trace.

                        Hi;
it's gpu problem for this model, to be sure about this take a hair dryer put it on cooler for 10 minute (laptop must be unpluged and without battery)
power up your laptop if you see the dell logo, you need to reflow, reball or change the ati gpu,

I let you know if it works

I do a "home made reflow" with a gun heater (I had nothing to lose). It works!

But I got 8 beeps at startup. I checked on dell website and it's a Display problem. I changed the Screen, still here. Perhaps the cable is faulty (I don't have spare) or my "home made reflow" doesn't work well

Edit: I forgot to say that I have a display with an external screen.

I just recieved a working laptop for a quick dc port swap, i tested the laptop on battery it worked, tested dc port issue felt loose, so disassembled the laptop and removed battery connector, swapped the dc port, re-connected the battery connector, inserted dc pin, white led glowed up - stable, pressed power switch, but it didn't turn on, no fan spin and no display. just 1 white led that glows up, doesn't move to orange (charging), i check voltage (battery : 11.37v) (dc input port : 19.3v)(bios : 1.75), i am stumped, there is no shorting on board.
