yes, try with ktmmotocross was sugestion, or power on in safe mode then what result.

you could try using winx that have win8 base (mini win8 portable with UFD). its has including with many tool to diagnostic after your repair. don't forget make a little donate for lifetime working. if not you can use it just for 10 minutes.

with ubuntu live, laptop runs normally

Ok, so you must try install fresh windows. Don't forget backup owners data. Try install with original toshiba drivers.
