Hey guys,
i've got this laptop from a friend who gave it to me in a dead state.
The laptop wasn't working at all so i've began my search on the 19V power rail.
It was shorted to ground so i injected voltage and the only thing getting hot was my ground clip from my power supply.
I found that the +1.05V Rail for the Chipset was shorted. i removed the coil and it was shorted on the power delivery side.
The pch seems fine bc the rail has over 50 ohms after i removed the coil.
Still nothing was getting hot so i suggested the chip must have been shorted to ground directly. I removed the chip and the coil side of the 1.05V wasn't shorted anymore.
Only the 19V. Now when i inject voltage a tiny cap was getting hot so i removed it and the 19v wasn't shorted anymore.
Now when i plug the charger the charging light is lighting up and it's charging the battery with 1.7 amps but when i try to turn it on it goes to around 20 mamps and then blue light is coming on for a few seconds then it goes off and pulls the charging current again.
I thought it would be because of the chip that creates the 1.05V i replaced it with a one from a donor board and still i won't get the 1.05v required for the chipset.
Also after i press the power button the 2.5V won't show up.
I was looking trough my thermal cam and after i press the power button the chip is getting very warm like 80-90 degrees and the chipset is getting warm like from 25 to 28 degrees.
I will send a video of that later. I can't believe the chipset is faulty. The 3.3v wasn't shorted and on the donor board that has exactly the same chipset it has the same ohms value as the one on my board on the 1.05v.
Are there some signals to measure so that i can proof the Chipset is the problem?
Also when i provide 1.05v at the coil output with my power supply while i start the laptop it will stay on longer and loops.
While it is doing that the 1.05v rail is taking around 500mamps.
Under the thermal cam i can see that the cpu and gpu are pulsing as well as the chipset like after every reset they are getting power for a short amount of time.
