The Lenovo laptops V15 and V17-IIL with I5 or i7 CPU and probably many other Lenovo laptop from this time with 10th or 11th generation Intel CPU suffer from a design flaw regarding the display/camera/microphone connector on the motherboard which is badly placed and the cheapest of the cheap connectors imaginable. As the cable is too near to the display and the connector does not fix it proper in place the cable develops little defects and those over time lead to a plethora of possible quirks or failures starting from the named RAM problem or sudden switching off in special when the display is moved, computer does not turn on or turns only on with the display at a certain angle, further hdd problems, keyboard problems well about all problems have been found related to this single point of failure.
A new eDP cable with integrated camera/microphone connection fixes the problem. Make sure the replacement part is actually working. Lenovo does not sell the cables alone, only in combination with the whole back of the display but used parts are available for cheap. You need one of those:
DC020023A00
DC020023A10
or
DC020023A20
Follow the instructions of the Lenovo repair manual for removal of the display, then change the cable but before installing it you grease the part which goes through the hinge with high-viscosity Silicone grease and make sure that when seated opening and closing the lid does not induce movement at the connector, sometimes only clamping down with a small cable tie or wire does the job. No perfect solution for this, it is a design flaw. Lenovo has no love for this kind of machines, no Ethernet, 4BG soldered, cheapo connectors, HDMI video out which bottlenecks the IRIS graphics, it is a shame.
Not easy to figure this out, but hey! Now I buy those for nothing and fix them in twenty minutes, they sell well as the Full HD display is phantastic, the best in the economy class I have ever seen.
