    XPS 15 7590 ( or Precission 5540 ? )

    Hi friends,

firstly, I have to let you know, I am not working with DELL laptops often ( actually, I can't remember, if I was fixing some board issue on DELLs ). And now I got for repair one from my friend. He bought it as a not properly working one, and its history is almost unknown. The issue is, it can not boot. This is not important in this situation.

Now, let me clarify the confusion in the topic name - the friend claims, that the model is Precission 5540. And when I get into BIOS settings, I can see the service tag CMR4533, which indicates he is right. But during booting, there is a label on the bottom on the screen XPS 15 7590, and the service tag on the backplate chassis is J14NXY2, which indicates, the model is XPS 15 7590. The board number is EDP51/EDB51 LA-H331P Rev 1.0 ( A00) and if I google for motherboard pictures of both models, they share the same motherboard.
So the question is - how can I be 100% sure, which model it is? Maybe the previous owner changed board, or tried to do something with bios firmware, and flashed there the wrong one. Or maybe I am to lame in DELL laptops, and the models equal. I have to firstly figure out, which model it is in order to flash there a new, proper bios.

    Thank you for any hints.

// UPDATE: I found some info, I can figure out, which one of these it is by finding its GPU. This one has N18P-G0-MP-A1 on it ( GeForce GTX 1650 Mobile, right? ), so it should be XPS 15 7590, am I correct?

// UPDATE 2: during `BIOS flash Update` utility, there was actual bios version for XPS 15 7590, ver 1.5 . I put an most recent version 1.35 for XPS 15 7590 from DELL support, update was successfully done, but now I have no picture on the screen. Num lock key doesn't react. Why is that? I am sure, I have done everything correctly, and previous BIOS assured me, that this board is for XPS 15 7590. Can anyone of you, more experienced in DELL, or in BIOS globally, tell me, why this update bricked the board? And how can I fixed it now? I have all needed equipment for hardware flashing the BIOS ( unless I have to flash also firmware in EC, then it is dead end for me ).

          🛠️ MSI GP75 Leopard MS-17E71 – No Display, Deep BIOS/EC Troubleshooting
          by macabook
          Hello everyone,

I’m currently working on a dead MSI GP75 Leopard (MS-17E71) motherboard (i7 CPU, NVIDIA GPU) with a no display/no backlight issue initially. After extensive investigation, I’m at a critical stage involving EC firmware, BIOS/ME region interaction, and possible deep corruption. I'm seeking advanced insight from anyone with experience in EC/BIOS sync issues or PCH-level behavior. Here’s a full breakdown:
          🧩 Initial Issue
          • Board powers on (fans spin, keyboard lights up and can be adjusted, caps lock led lights), but no display or backlight
          • External display (HDMI) shows

[Problem/ Request] Bricked TongFang GK7MRFR BIOS
          by cr4zychriss
          Hello everyone,
I am requesting urgent assistance to unbrick my laptop, a rebranded TongFang GK7MRFR chassis. The laptop is completely dead following a faulty in-OS EC flash attempt.
I have successfully used a CH341A programmer and can read/write/verify both flash chips, but using my backups/extractions has failed to restore power. The root cause is likely a corrupted Intel Management Engine (ME) region or an incompatible EC/BIOS pairing. System & Hardware Details

ASUS Zenbook Pro Duo UX8402ZA BIOS
          by pirati
          Hello everyone,

I recently bought a non-working Asus Zenbook Pro Duo OLED UX8402ZA that was listed for parts only. The seller mentioned that it had no display output but that the charging lights worked.

When the laptop arrived (without a charger and SSD), I connected a charger and confirmed with a multimeter that it was charging the battery. However, when I tried to power it on, only the backlight of the secondary display came on. There was no image, and it didn’t boot into the BIOS.

I decided to try flashing a new BIOS, but since I didn’t want to desolder...

          ASUS TP500LA BIOS request/repair/merge?
          by jbonavita
Hi, my laptop wont boot at all
With original bios no POST, only LED lights
With alternative BIOS from model TP500LN (flashed via programmer) the notebook works again
          Some issues
          A- with bios from 500LN, it won't update from bios of model 500LA (from 500LN v203 to 500LA v300)
B- If updated from 500LN version 203 to 300, the battery stops being recognized

          Things I tried

1- Update / clear ME: Took the non working bios, made a backup, and did this: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/troubl...theory/trouble...
