    Lenovo ideapad 3 15IL05 - ram issue

    Hi all,
I've encountered an issue I've never experienced before..

The Lenovo works perfectly, it has 4gb soldered ram and an additional slot. With just the 4gb the laptop passes all tests, everything is working. However no matter what frequency or capacity of ram I add to the extra slot the display starts artifacting completely randomly in both in the bios and in win and the only solution is to shut down.

I've inspected the pins of the extra slot with a magnifying and didn't notice anything unusual. I've also tried multiple ram modules, but the issue is the same.

    Any ideas?

i just recently fixed an hp laptop with artifacting issue, i just resolder each pin of the ram slot and the problem goes away. u may try tapping each pin with a solder iron with a little amount of solder on it, of course put some flux on pins amd solder... be careful not to put a lot of solder to prevent pins bridges... at first i thought the ram slot is not the issue as i also inspecred under mscope all pins are good. u may try also...

Thank you for your idea, I will try it soon.

Do you think the heat gun will work, or would a small tipped soldering iron be better?

Nagyesz attach BIOS backup .and serial number. this method is remove RAM ONABORD in the bios. and you try to put memory ram fisic in the socket. but first attach here BACKUP BIOS.

I did it, but unfortunately, the problem is the same, although not immediately, and looks more stable

It mostly happens when the laptop is moved.

                Update:
If I use it with the screen placed on the ground instead of the bottom cover, it doesn't freeze.
                I'll keep this bios on))

Interestingly it doesn't freeze when moving the ram but rather when moving the lid

                Could be solder cracks?

As far as I know this model (and some others from Lenovo) have the solder joints weaken under the CPU due to the low-temperature solder (138C°) and the underfill material as well as chassis flexing. CPU has to be reballed with regular leaded solder (183°C) or even lead-free (220°C).
