Hi guys. I have one of these laptops with a strange boot issue. The boot hangs at the compaq splash screen and will not go any further. I can force it to start and boot by tapping the esc key at power up. It will also hang when pressing the f10 key to enter startup once it is stuck at the compaq screen. I have already flashed the bios to the latest version and taken the cmos battery out to no avail. It has the dreaded nvidia chip much to my sorrow. A number of other things dont work correctly either- caps lock light and touchpad lights. Could this be related to the southbridge?

Sounds like SIO/KBC issue...Especially when you've mentioned that capslock...i've had also some mobos stuck at splash screen due to the bad usb's...this is more complex...try to boot just bare mobo,cpu and mems,if it will pass splash screen...Last edited by loser18; 05-25-2014, 10:02 PM. -

Thanks for the reply loser18. Now that you mention the usb ports; I previously tried a usb keyboard. It would bring it out of the cap locks but also would flash the cap lock indicator on the keyboard. A couple of times with the keyboard plugged in it would boot directly to the hard drive.At one time, i pressed any key on the usb keyboard and it booted right up. Just a bunch of weird issues in addition to a loose dc jack. Rather than fix all the issues on the board it may be better to find the customer another inexpensive board to save time and money.Comment

The F700 uses the MCP67MV/GeForce 7150 chipset which is going to be the root of almost all troubles that laptop can possibly have. Unless you have BGA reworking equipment and can source a new chip, hunting for a working board is the best option.A working TV? How boring!Originally posted by PeteS in CAComment
