right just stripped the laptop down it uses Motherboard dabd3gmb6e0 rev: E the first thing i checked was the fans cooling vent yes it was blocked totaly with fluff so ive cleaned that out well and all fine now the real issue as dj ricoh says try a soft refow i have noticed the chip has also got epoxy on the edges do i remove that first? also in the link ive posted above will that idea of a soft reflow work? or can you advise a novice at doing this with basic tools ive nothing at all to loose with trying it as the laptop cost me nothing money wise also has 3 gb memory too included ive just had to add my own hard drive cheers guys.

i have managed to get this laptop working what i did was to cover the board with foil and then cut a square out around the ati chip and also on the underside of the ati chip.I then tapped around the hole with kapton tape. i then added liquid flux under all 4 sides of the ati chip i then attached a temp probe to the top of the chip i heated the underside of the board slowly to 140 then slowly again started on the top of the chip to 240 and held it at this for 1 minute and then lowered the temps untill below 100 then i let the board cool down by it self for about a hour.I didnt know if to add a shim or not but i added a 1.2mm one i then rebuilt it and touch wood all seems fine im just reloading windows 7 on it now then i will run some tests.I had nothing to loose as this was a free laptop the only thing its cost me is the shim plus some artic silver. This is the first time im tried a reflow myself i guess time will tell if it will last but with having the fan vents fully blocked with fluff cant of helped at all.
