    msi cr400 - no display

    hey guys

    have a msi cr400 with no display
    already replaced proadlizer capacitor with 4 x 330uf tantalum
    but still no display
    havent done a reflow yet but checked capacitors under the nvidia chip it shows 7 ohms? is that considered a short circuit?

    also dont know if its related or unusual but when plugging in the charger, the led in the charging battery indicator flashes once and then once again after removing the charger

    thanks in advance guys

      what's your vcore voltage? you can check fddizon's thread, it might be same problem with your's.

          What is the resistance of your meter probes, i.e. if you touch them for test?
          What is the resistance under the nvidia if you remove the processor?

            pepe,

            before putting those caps, whats the status of laptop when powered on?

            given:
            -no display
            -
            -

              @fddizon
              well thats about it, there is no display
              no beeps no blinking lights no change on screen

              @atsio
              meter shows there is 7 ohms under nvdia chip

              @lezsimply
              vcore is 0.01

              already removed the nec/tokin type capacitor and replaced it with 4 x 330uf tantalum capacitors but still no display

              thanks for the replies guys

                I asked you what is the resistance of your probes if you touch them for testing (Asking to see if meter shows 0 Ohm).

                7 Ohms is without the processor plugged in?

                What is the resistance on PL3, PL4, PL5, PL6, PL7, PL8, PL9, PIN 1 & 2 OF PQ36 with processor and memory removed.

                  probes touching is 0 ohms

                  yes, 7 ohms is without processor plugged

                  resistancce of
                  pl3=303
                  pl4=821
                  pl5=0
                  pl6=850
                  pl7=223
                  pl8=1013

                  pl9,pq38 and pu11 are empty
                  but pins are there see attached photo

                    pepe,

                    page 28.
                    remove pl5 coil and determine which side is shorted to ground.
                    if on the right side, check components going in that direction
                    if on left, you know what to do

                      but already checked all components out of circuit towards the direction of the short, i ended up below the vga chip mcp79mvl-b3
                      its like the line of +mcp79_core is shorted?..

                      thought it was normal because in your other post you said that the vga is short and still the 4 x 330uf capacitors worked right?

                      again thanks for your time

                        Re: msi cr400 - no display

                        my apology to that. i use diode tester with sound, when it measures low resistance value, it beeps.
                        forgot to post reading of resistance.

                        your reading is 0 which means that it is shorted as if you short your two probes.

                          To be 100% certain you have to remove and PU8, r257, r258 but my experience tells me that the problem is with the Media and Communication Processor (MCP), your conclusion.
                          You have to unsolder it and check of course first, if the short is gone on the board and secondly if MPC is functional.
