Acer Nitro 5 AN515-56 GH52T LA-L051P Charges ok but not switching on.

Hello all

I need some help with this laptop please.

It came in, not turning on fully. When i press the power button, i get a blue power light briefly (19v 50mA shown on my power supply) and then it turn's off. With the battery connected it charges it fine (19v 1.6A).

Still shows the same symptoms with just the motherboard so i know it's a problem on the board. When first connecting the power without the battery connected i get 10ma briefly before going to 0ma so i believe the EC chip is fine (I could be wrong).

I've checked around the board for shorts and nothing stands out. I've tried different BIOS's from the same make./model with the same results. I am now stumped and what to try next.

Could it be the EC chip that needs reprogramming?

I have the schematics and boardview so any help to get this working again would be really appreciated.

Resistance to GND on pin1-2/6-7/8-9/13-14 of U8 and pin6-7/8-9 of U7.
Voltage on same pins after pressing power button.
voltage on pin5 of U8 after pressing power button.

Readings below are in diode mode format, Sorry only just read back your post. If you need resistance to GND, let me know.

U8
1-2 = 0.02 --> 3.3v
6-7 = 0.38 --> 5.12v (without button pressed)
8-9 = 0.45 --> 0.00v
13-14 = 0.27 --> 0.00v
5 --> 0.00v

U7
6-7 = 0.00 --> 0.00v
7-8 = 0.38 --> 0.00v

From the above reading, I removed the jump at PJ1801 and the short is coming from +1.8VALW_PRIM.

Enables are missing on U8.Short on pin6-7 of U7 is a concern. Please share resistance to GND reading on pin6-7 of U7.
Next thing to try is to inject 1V/5A on shorted side of PJ1801.

Sorry, my bad. I already injected 0.8V/4A into the shorted side and the thermal camera confirmed that the PCH was at fault.

I've returned it back to the customer as unrepairable.

Just a quick question as i mainly repair Apple products, what does ALW mean? is it a always on power rails?

I knew the outcome the moment you reported short to GND on 1.8V rail but didnt want to discourage you.
