The heat pipe is supposed to contain a working fluid. Some of which is in a gas state.

What's the thermal compound use if he says the 2 caps are short? Just a question.

Yeah once the solution gets hot "inside the enclosed portion only" but it does not emit any gas it all stays in the pipe and all kinds of solutions are used there is no real good information on the solution which is a liquid I suppose it does turn into a gas and back to a liquid...

Many times the graphics chipset which is what I thought was being discussed is just a little shim coming off of the pipe and there is no gas in this portion it is connected to the portion with gas but I haven't recalled seeing many if any graphics chipsets having a hollow shim with gas in it per say the tubes themselves are the only thing that contain gas...

Anyhow I guess I may have read into the answer a little further than I should have so your claim with gases would be semi correct as it is like the handbone connecting to the finger bone and the hand bone has gas but the finger don't ... Anyhow should be plenty of clarity.

But this is what I would check ----> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fhIHfBy0khY

Heat is transferred to the shim which covers the chip. The heat from the shim is transferred to the heatpipe welded to it. The increase in heat gives the heatpipe liquid enough energy to enter the gaseous state. The gas diffuses along the heatpipe to an area of cooler temperature (the heatsink fins), where it then recondenses forming a liquid.

Re: Toshiba C660 IGp chip get really hot.

Thanks for all the input. I had stripped the laptop down and dismantled the fan to remove the lint. I refitted and used MX4 thermal compound. I also fitted a copper shim but I did notice the air coming through the vents of the heatsink was not really hot at all so the Air/Liquid/gasses or whichever it is are probably the fault here if the heatsink is not conducting the heat away. The heat is very localised as in both the IGP and the opposite side of the pcb are very hot 69-70c this is just on the bios screen. Im going to order a new heatsink to see what it does. The reason I mentioned the S/C caps on the Igp was because I check a few other board I have and none of them had S/C caps on the Igp chip itself. Also I removed both S/C chips and the short was still there. I thought maybe the chip was drawing too much current and heating up but due to the fact theres not hot air being pulled away I think the new heatsink might be the best bet.

Guide to transplant MEC1503 EC chip and EEPROM reprogamming for T14s gen 2 and X13 gen 2
              by acedogblast
This is a guide that I am writing for helping others to replace their MEC1503 EC chip if it breaks (or to get around an inconvenient prompt to the BIOS). This forum has been extremely helpful to me so I would like to contribute to help others. I will tell you right now that this task is very difficult to do. You MUST have experience and tools to do precision micro-soldering, BGA reballing, trace repair, and general laptop repair skills.

There are some specialty tools needed to do this task. The replacement MEC1503 chips can be acquired from Aliexpress. Do not buy the bare chips as...
