    Dell Latitude D400 Overcharging

Here's a an issue I've had for a while that I'm finally getting to trying to fix.

I have an old Dell Latitude D400... and the thing won't quit charging the battery when it's at 100%, to the point of overheating the battery. It's done it to both batteries I have for it, so I doubt that's the issue.

Since it's a BGA cpu and replacement mainboards with decent CPU's (it has the nicest 1.8GHz Donthan option) are $$$, I'd like to take a stab at fixing it my self, maybe. I do have a spare mainboard with a toasted chipset (USB controller dead).

My give-a-crap level is low for this, since all my nice parts (2GB DDR, decent HDD) were swapped for crap parts and it's quite outdated performance wise... it's had some solder work done to it already too. Not to mention I have 3 nicer laptops already (this one was my first decent one though)... it's more sentimental to me.

All I'm asking is if anybody knows off the top of thier head any common culprits for this type fault?
