    Compaq CQ62

I have two motherboards from this model with the exact same problem... Turns on and the CAPS lock light flashes 3 times then it turns off and back on, then flashes constantly.

I have changed the memory as per HP's diagnostic table (3 Flashes states bad memory).

I have reflown the GPU and southbridge with no difference...

    Any other ideas???

Have you checked the 1.8v voltage supply for the RAM is present?

From what I can see there is 1.6V on the VSUS so that should be ok... Now I gotta try and find the BIOS IC ;-)

Need the model number as someone else mentioned. You can get it from manufacturer 99.9% of the time if you put the whole model number in. The hardest part is doing the flashing

I can find a pre programmed one on ebay. Its a winbond BIOS. or if I can remove the same one from another board I got lying around.

You can try with good CPU and check CPU socket.

I have tried another CPU but the error states bad memory, I know the memory is ok tho as it works fine in another laptop...

Would a bad CMOS cause the cpu to not get hot? without the heatsink the cpu is stone cold, southbridge is warm and GPU is warm... this is on both boards... just flashes 3 times then goes off and back on then constantly flashes the CAPS lock.

check vcore voltages, you need a schematic. What is the mobo code ?

Definitely check Vcore. If you can't find the schematic, just take your DMM, wind the ground wire round the shielding of a USB port or a similar ground, then try and get some readings off the caps behind the CPU socket.
