Echo what DJduck said, I think the 500c killed the GPU dead. Getting hot very quickly is a sure sign of it.

hmm, well there was no difference between re-flowing. Even before re-flowing it did EXACTLY the same thing, so I don't think re-flowing did anything at all.. And I only mean my heatgun was set to 500C, the actual temperature of the GPU most likely did not reach 500C..

Even 300c is too much! The next thing that you need to do is to dig up a schematic so you can confirm if it's bad voltages or a bad chip. Find the motherboard's model number and revision, they are written on the board, usually somewhere on the edge. Also, does your machine have an MXM video card or on-board video? If it's MXM, it might be easier to buy a whole new card.
"Even before re-flowing it did EXACTLY the same thing, so I don't think re-flowing did anything at all" That is because it was likely dead already.

Thank you, I have actually just taken the hit and purchased a replacement motherboard. I doubt this one is reparable now!

Thanks to everyone who gave support.

One more thing: when you replace the board, make sure you use good thermal grease like Arctic Silver or Nexus, some random dollar store crap just won't do. And make sure you clean the fan and heatsink. You can also try to mod the heatsink, buy some small RAM heatsinks and glue them on to the heatpipe. That way you will have more surface area to dissipate heat, because the reason your laptop died is because of heat.

Thank you for your comment, I already have a tube of Arctic Silver 5, and I plan on opening the laptop up every few months to clean out the fan. It is one thing I will miss about my current laptop (Studio XPS 16) and that is its the only laptop I have come across where the first thing you can remove from it is the fan, and without even removing the heatsinks and disturbing the thermal paste. Then if you want to, the heatsinks are the second thing you can remove. I really think all laptops should be designed around this. Not so you have tear the entire thing apart because the fan is the last thing you can get to.

It's intentional to make it harder for us to repair ourselves. Hence why the likes of HP and Dell are now burying hard drives deep within the confines of their laptops. (I had to pull apart an entire 17R just to access the damn hard drive)

Re: Acer Aspire 8943G Blank Screen

Yep, that is why they use non-standard parts and connectors and make the video card, processor, ssd and memory unswappable so if anything fails or needs an upgrade then you won't be able to do it yourself but you have to give them more and more money.
