    Dell XPS L501x mobo dead

My beast Dell XPS L501x died a week after I replaced its thermal paste (approx. 1,5 years after purchase). It was not stressed at all when it died and had no problems from the time I replaced the paste, it just blacked out and never booted again out of the blue. After I disassembled it to see what's wrong I saw that I did a very poor job with the paste and it was all over the ICs (CPU, GPU + mems etc). Not sure if that caused the problem though, just reporting it.

At start the charging icon would blink every 1/3 seconds as long as I was holding the power button down with my fingers.

Now when I plug the AC adapter in all lights visible (touchpad, power, disk, charging/battery and an "XPS" light) will blink at the same time (all off, all on, ...) and I can hear a very quiet but distinct clicking sound coming from the center of the motherboard that follows the lights' blinking rate.

All testing has been done with & without: HDD, ram, USB boards, keyboard, battery, CPU, monitor etc. removing one each time but the problem persists.

At the moment I have no photos/datasheet to provide. Until I get in my hands a digital camera you can see the board's photos here: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=25458

There might be diagnostic blink codes for DELL. This thread may help. Lucky for him it was just a CMOS battery problem - I hope yours is as simple. http://www.technibble.com/forums/showthread.php?t=21444

Sadly the blink codes indicate that I've got a faulty system board and I can't fix it myself... I'll probably end up buying a new one off ebay.

Going a bit off-topic, has anyone had any success with buying a partially faulty board (can't be shut down by software, fans not running at the right speed etc.) and getting it to work, even with it's problems in place?

      Best regards, Alex

Dell E6400 PT434 type Battery Charging Stuck at 1%. Battery Pinouts?
          by Bowline
My question pertains to understanding the control circuity inside a Dell PT434 type battery used in Dell E6400, E6410 and other Dell notebooks?

Does anyone have a circuit diagram for the inside of a Dell PT434 battery and/or a description of how the control lines work to control this battery?

My reason for asking is I have a battery which I cannot get to charge beyond 1% in a Dell E6410 or E6400.
The LED bar graph charge indicator on the battery shows one LED lighted when the info button is pressed.

          by ChaosLegionnaire
so i took out one of my spare gigabyte ep35-ds3r mobos from storage for use to do some cpu, ram and video card testing of stuff i bought from ebay and got for free from momaka. he bought 50 e8400 cpus for cheap from ebay some years ago and i decided to help him relieve him of some of his supply since he had waaaay too many!! what did we say about hoarding too much stuff and depriving others of them?! *cough* socialism *cough* lol!

i had to blow some dust off the board and heatsinks with the datavac as i didnt clean it up before putting it in storage. after finishing...

DELL Latitude 5410 - dead; pwrbtn flashing
          by YellowJacket
          Hi folks,
DELL Latitude 5410, board number FDZ41 LA-J371P Rev: 1.0 (A00), schematic uploaded in different post, here is the link --> https://www.badcaps.net/filedata/fetch?id=3484415

When I connect it to a power ( DELL round charger, or USB-C ), LED on the power button starts flashing white, and the laptop doesn't do anything ( flashing slows for a very brief time in time when I press it, but it continues again ). Battery is not charging. While the charger is connected, I have few voltages present, but some of them are fluctuating, see attached pictures.

          Dell 3080 Micro BIOS dead
          by tracks
          Hello all,

I have a Dell 3080 Micro with a problem. As it is right now, it seems to be boot looping, maybe... There's no output, just fan on and power led lights up and blinks off every 2 seconds or so.
Previous owner told me he bought it with a BIOS password, he tried to use a CH341A programmer with some random test clip and tried to mess with it while it was powered on. Now it won't boot.

I tried to dump the bios with an EZP2023+ but I can't get a consistent read. Every time the dump is different, so it's unusable. I think the BIOS chip is fried.

Dell E6540 laptop completely dead after dssasembly
          by max-power
Hi, I disassemble my laptop to replace the speakers, to access them, you have to remove everything including the heat sink and fan, unscrew the motherboard, lift it up a bit to access the speaker wire.
that was not the first time I dissasemble it, i did replace the same speaker a few year ago and I repaste it last year, so I had nothing to worry about. but when I put everything back together, its completely dead.

After a bit of investigating, i found one pin of the status led ribbon cable that was unglued from the cable and bend touching another pin, I bend it back at his place...
