    HP G61 with momentary power

I have a G61 that powers up the button board for about two seconds and dies.

I the FETs test OK and I replaced the ISL power controller which is a common issue with these boards, but to my surprise the problem persists.

    Anybody have any ideas?

P.S. The BIOS standby voltages, give or take, check out.

    Sound like short circuit.

Try measure resistance to coils. Remove CPU and try if power stay on.

Thanks for the advice Tuomo, but I am a little confused about the coils. Am I correct in assuming you mean resistance to ground from the coils (the large grey chokes)? How will this help?

Forgive the ignorance, but I am just a computer user with a basic understanding of electronics and a cheap SMD rework station.

As for the CPU, everything that can be removed has been. No RAM, CPU or BIOS battery.

Measure resistance across the polymer caps next to the northbridge, GPU if it has one, and southbridge. One of those chips may be shorted. If that's the case, you'll need someone with a BGA rework station to fix it for you.

I've tested the polymer caps and none show a short much less a lower impedance than expected.

            Yes resistance to ground.

If they show low resistance you know at this circuit has short circuit.

GPU and CPU have very low resistance so remove CPU before measure resistance.

Found the problem! It turns out it was a bad coupling cap that was not quite shorted. It was a lucky find as it burned me when I was measuring something on the board.

Replaced it and they all lived happily ever after.

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?
                    by Tynan Dill
I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

                    Assuming...

Desoldering gun station modified to use a 18 volt @ 20 amp switching power supply
                    by sam_sam_sam
I have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump

One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy...

Asus Z97-a power cycle, no boot no cpu voltage
                    by meraklinetx
Hello, I have an asus Z97-A motherboard and it doesn't start which was working properly before, the problem isn't related by ram, ram slots or psu (I changed all and nothing work), the exact problem is when you switch it on , it starts and after 1 seconds (no boot or display picture) it's off and then on cycle continuously until you power it off from psu also it's responding to the power switch for turning it off if you keep pressing it 3 or 4 seconds (power button pin has 3.3v) , also when you start it with eatx 12v socket connected this is happening (power cycle also all voltages are resetting...
