    HP 620 ac power connetor overheating

    Hi. This laptop was spilled with ink, on board has just little signs of ink, I just reflow the NEC Tokin 0E907 and now work, but power connector on motherboard has owerheating like hell. I try with 100% OK ac power adapter and result is same. What can be wrong ?

    That 0E907 looks destroyed. You can't reflow those, you need to replace them. They're only rated to stand 1 soldering cycle.

    There may be ink in the connector causing a high resistance connection, or other traces of it on the board creating a partial short. Ensure you have removed all of the ink. An infrared camera can identify the hot spots where this is happening.

    If you have an adjustable power supply of sufficient capacity you can remove the connector, solder wires to the pads and directly apply voltage. (Make sure to use the current limit function to prevent damage if there is a partial short somewhere else.)

      Hi. I try your suggestion, solder + and - wire direct on board, after app 1 hour wire and board around conntacts no heat at all maybe 25-30°c, but AC adapter got app 50°C I see manytime hot AC adaptors but I think is that normal when is battery empty.

      So I think that is solved, bad AC connector on motherboard ?

        FYI

        How laptops work:

        AC comes out of the outlet into your laptop power supply. This laptop power supply is much like your desktop power supply the only difference is 1 voltage is coming out of it 16v or 12v or whatever the laptop is designed to require.

        So anything beyond the power supply on the opposite side of the the ac plug is DC voltage so you or others are not confused about this it is a DC connection that goes to your motherboard.

        Anyhow yes it is normal for the laptop power supply to get *HOT* when the battery is low surely it will be even hotter as it is really working to convert that AC to DC and go to both powering your motherboard and charging your battery. This is nothing strange or unusual here.

        The power supply is the brick itself.

        If everyone was smart and wanted to save cash on both electricity and save cash on buying new power supplies for laptops they would unplug them from the outlet when not in use not to mention they can in some cases be a potential fire hazard.

        Anyhow I would not worry if it feels slightly hotter then normal I do notice that universal power supplies for laptops get hotter then the originals as do many of the generic versions I am guessing a lot of this has to do with lower quality parts causing inefficiencies during conversion of power.

        I hope this helps you a bit but yes some alcohol should clean that baby up pretty well depending on the ink it shouldn't cause that much problem but there is no way of knowing for sure so it is best to clean it up as best as possible.

          Hi. I fix this heating with resolder onboard AC power jack pins, and wash all motherboard with trichlorethylene. Now and before laptop work OK. Thanks for all.
