    Dell Inspiron 1100 max memory?

Anyone know the max memory you can put in a Dell Inspiron 1100? I have been searching and reading but I find alot of conflicting reports. Some say 2 gig some say 1 gig some say it requires sticks with 16 chips some say the speed has to be pc2100 (ddr). Anyone with first hand knowledge please share.

I read that but I also saw in the dell forums where people where upgrading to 2 1 gig chips but it required 16 chip sticks (I have never seen DDR SODIMM double sided 16 chip sticks) so I was woundering if it was bad info. As far as taking it to 1gig total as long as I stick with pc2100 (DDR) speed does it matter what the chip config is on each stick of ram? Will faster ram work say PC2700 or pc3200? This is why I asked for first hand information not a link to dell that I have read 20 times but I do thank you for responding I am greatfull for any infomation.

Faster sticks gonna work. Depends on chipset.
If you will mix speeds of sticks it will work ALWAYS at slower speed.
I think those guys did some modifications of BIOS or did something with chipset.

That information source is wrong 80% of the time.
Same-same with memory finders at places like Crucial because they just copy that info.

What happens is when the laptop was released only 512MB modules were available on the market and they (Dell or whoever) won't claim it can use more without actual testing.
Later when larger modules become available they don't update the documentation because they already have a newer model out and don't care.

That has happened at every size step increase in the history of RAM.

If you want to know the truth look up the chipset specs.

            It's an Intel 845GL chipset.

Read page 11. -- Takes 2GB of low density RAM. [64 bit wide modules.]
