    Toshiba Satellite M70 Display

a neighbour handed my one of their old laptps, a Toshiba Satellite M70 (SR6) saying that the screen had gone blank ... I have repaired several of my own laptops, so said I would take a look for them.

an external monitor worked just fine, and the screen was completely black (no shadow image) so I 'presumed' that the problem was likely the LCD, or the inverter, or both. ordered a new screen and replaced it, no go; so I ordered a new inverter and replaced that too, still no go. All the work was done with the battery removed, and the connections have been double checked, etc ...

having spend $150 on a rather old piece of kit, I am reluctant to do much more, but thought I would post to this group, before giving up and putting the screen and inverter on eBay to recoup some costs ...

If the inverter or lamps are bad, you can still see a very faint image on the screen.

A bad display ribbon cable can also cause these issues. Sometimes they get broken from too much flexing from opening and closing the laptop. Often times the power to the inverter goes through the same cable. If a new cable doesn't fix it, I'd have to say the issue is in the video circuitry on the motherboard somewhere.

Yes I could order a new cable for another $55. plus shipping ... but it may end up being a motherboard problem after all that ... and for something this old, I've probably already wasted more money on it that it is even worth. Any advice before scrapping this project
