    Asus GL504GS

Working on a Asus Gl504GS mainboard.

the laptop has no sound anymore tried anything in windows but still no luck.
the realtek driver is also not shown in windows and it doesnt even play in the BIOS sounds.(startup logo sound)

i founded one shorted CAP near the Realtek ALC3288 IC removed but still no luck.

what should i do next? just replace the IC ?
i do measure 5V in near by the IC. and the short is gone.

Is the (Iggy?) Azalia codec heating up ?

What is the history of this unit? Any liquid damage near the audio section?

What is the voltage to ground of AMP_SLEEP# ?

Check each of the power rails that are shown in the schematic for this device.

Each one is present and within the proper range?

thanks for the reply ! no liquid damage, the Azalia Codec is not heating up there was a Shorted CAP wich was heating up near the Codec i removed the cap and the short was gone. i havent placed a new one yet might that be it ?

          Re: Asus GL504GS

The heat may have been only due to the shorted cap.

          Which cap was shorted?

What is the voltage to ground of AMP_SLEEP# ?

If this signal is a logic low = 0 volts, then the amp is being requested to enter sleep mode.

I will measure the voltage once again and look up the cap i removed it.
saddly im not at the office till tonight so i will updated it later on the day. thanks in advance

i replaced the cap but still no luck, i cant find the CAP on the manual and dont have boardview for this mainboard.

This is an active low signal since the net name has a '#' suffix.

So with a 0 volt = low digital signal, the amp is being requested to turn OFF.

Remove all power, meter in resistance mode, check the resistance to ground of this enable signal.

What is the resistance reading ? If the resistance is not a low value, then the driver of this signal is controlling this amplifier status.

Check your BIOS settings. Any option for audio enable / disable ?

If the audio codec is not being detected, check the power rails for this device. Check the series ferrite beads that are used to filter the power rails that may be damaged due to an excessive current draw so now, the audio codec is not being powered so cannot be enumerated. If the codec was toasty hot, likely it is damaged and will need to be replaced.

Check the voltage to ground measurements on Q3003A

PS: What is the version of your board? Is it 2.0 or 2.1 ?

Í will check the power rails and voltages one more time and the resistance.
in bios is the audio enabled, i tried disabling it and re-enabling but no luck.

                        Resistance of AMP-sleep : .972m

                        Q3003A : Pin 1 2.5V
                        Pin 2 : 0
                        pin 3 : 0
                        pin 4 : 2.5v
                        pin 5 : 5v
                        pin 6 : 0

Confirm the pin #1 voltage. It should be the same reaching the codec for amp_sleep#. If you have a voltage here at pin #1 then it should be the same at the codec.
