    Acer Nitro 5 no power - FH52M (LA-J871P)

    Hi everyone,

I hoping that someone could help me with this motherboard. It's had no liquid damage and just one day stopped working.

I currently have it setup on my bench using the power supply with 19v connected to PJP101 but it's showing 0A. I've checked for a short to ground on all the rails but apart from PLV3 & PLV2 nothing else shows. PLV2 & PLV3 are both showing 1.21ohms, so i removed them and now on pin 1 i get 300k on pin 2 it's still 1.2ohms.(Is this a short to ground on NVVDD1?) This still didn't solve the problem of why i'm not getting any amps into the board. It still shows 19v 0A.

    I turned my attention to the 2 MOSFETS (PQB3 & PQB4) and charging controller (PUB1). At PQB3 i have 19v on Pin5 but nothing on 1-4. On the PUB1 i have 19v on PIN28 and 0v on both pin4 and 6 (ACDRV & ACDET).

I'm presuming, but could be wrong, that i need ACDET voltage to get some of the others, so i started to investigate that rail.

PRB38 has ~19v both side but PRB11 only has ~19v on pin1 0v pin2. PQB11 has 19v on pin 2 but 0v on pin1. So i'm not sure what is going on here. I also checked for a short to ground and it's fine 0.56 in diode mode.

I've check PRB7 and have 0v both sides, PCB1 has 19v on pin1 but 0v on pin2. I tried removing PQB1 to see if i would get 19v on pin 2 but nothing. Again no short to ground on this rail.

I've tried replacing PUB1, PQB3 and PQB4 just in case one of them was faulty but this hasn't made any difference.

I'm now stuck and not sure what else to try and to why at my bench power supply is showing 19v 0a. Is this correct? Why no other power rails are active at the charging controller. (ACDRV & ACDET)

Hopefully some experts on here can help me to get thisworking again or at least find the actual problem. I know at this stage that it might never work due to maybe a problem with the NVVDD1 rail.

If ACDET is 0V then you likely have a bad DC jack. Acers used a contact (ADAPDET in this schematic) that shorts to ground when the adaptor is fully inserted. It's the 'click' you feel when you push the adaptor fully in.

PQB11 is biased on normally, which shorts ACDET to ground. When the adaptor is inserted, and ADAPDET goes to ground, the bias for PQB11 is removed and it turns off. ACDET should then go to 2.4V or thereabouts. This is Acers way of preventing the charger being active till the jack is fully inserted.

Your spot on the money... The original power brick was testing to be 19v using the multimeter but when inserted into the motherboard showed 0v. But and a BIG but when i wiggled this around i got the 19v to the motherboard and it started up.

I cannot see any crackes or damage to the socket (this was the first thing that i checked) so it must be faulty internally. I ordered one and hopefully this will get it working again.

On a side note with with both PLV2 & PLV3 showing 1.21ohms is this normal for NVVDD1 to be that low?

can be totally ok. i have seen much lower resistance on vcore rails and the gpu was fine... which gpu is it?
