Re: [help]asus gl703ge dead, no shorts!

Pin 12 is 19V. You've either put that on the LDO 5V rail, or to the gate of PQ62.

If your VREG3 and VREG5 are present, then you have power to your EC and it's not producing S5_ON. If other pre-requisites are there, then that leaves the EC as likely to have sustained damage.

You've learnt the hard way that you don't probe pins of a QFN buck converter when it's powered. Check your +1.05V rail for a short too, as this kind of SNAFU usually results in a dead PCH.

      refotmatt....i have s5_on resoldering "the original" pu28!!!!!

      and now

      s5_on 2,5v

      3v_s5 0.9v

      5v_s5 0,5v

      vreg3 3,3

vreg5 0,5 (IMPOSSIBLE TO UNDERSTAND BUT WITH OTHER IC I HAVE 5,5V!!)

Re: [help]asus gl703ge dead, no shorts!

For a RT6575DGQW, you need to use the TPS51225C as a substitute. There are two versions of the Richtek chip (C/D) and 3 versions of the TI chip (no suffix/B/C).

Both versions have the LDO's as always on. Just check the datasheets, all that info is there.

Have no explanation why you have no S5_ON. Only going off what you are telling me.

Re: [help]asus gl703ge dead, no shorts!

          my original ic is

          5x=5h
          u19

          the replaced chip is

          51225c

i've soldered another 51225c: same thing, no s5_on,but 5v on vreg5...as soon as i put the original ic, s5_on appear again, but i have 0,5 on vreg 5....

is it normal that s5_on is 2,6v? shouldn't be higher? like 3v?

i think to reprogram the bios

ok, replaced pu28, flashed bios, now i have

            Pin 6/20 3,1v

            (S5_on)

            Vreg3 3,4
            Vreg 5 5v

            But low voltage
            0,7 3v s5 0,4 5v S5

pgood is 0vIf I pump 3v 0,100a on pin 8 of pu28, 3v drop to 1,8v I’ve disconnected pl22 from pin 1…and I’ve seen that the problem is on the other side (3v_s5)

so using thermal camera, i can see that au2 (audio codec) lu1 (lan) and u25 (become hot)

removin au2 and lu1 i still have absortion from u25...but maybe it's normal?

Well you've obviously got an overload on the +3V rail, either passive or active. Resistance to ground measurement? If you've had an overvoltage on that line, the usual suspect is the PCH.

In almost all rog models it is common that the pch is damaged, measure the resistance on the capacitors (usually it is sufficient to know the situation but not always)

Refer to pg 59 of the schematic. +3V_S5 feeds a lot of other buses via load switches. Check resistance to ground for each supply after each load switch (PU21, 22, 23, 27, 29, 30, 34, 37). I'm assuming LCD/trackpad are also disconnected.

Also check resistance to ground @PL8 (+1.05V_S5)

U25 is your PCH, which based on my previous experience with +3V/+1.05V overloads, is normally fried.

You asked about what else to do, and you can check these things to isolate what is causing the overload. But odds are it's the PCH. Up to you whether you want to waste anymore time on it, or throw it on the donor pile.

What do you mean “with 3v/1v overload”??

Do you think i haven’t 3v/5v because of pch?

You think there is no hope?

Too high a voltage on that rail.

Does it matter? You need to find out whether the board is repairable or a donor. Steps I've already given you.
