    Canon 16-35mm F/2.8 L lens - Component ID needed

    Hi,

I'm in the process of repairing a Canon 16-35mm F/2.8 L lens, I've noticed a component on the PCB that seems to be broken and loose. The legs are still soldered securely to the board but there's side to side play from inside.
Can anyone tell me what it is please, it stated 152 5mc on top but I can't find anything corresponding to that online.

    Many thanks
    Dave

To me it looks like some type of inductor

Thanks! How would I go about testing the values?
I’ve tested the good inductor and it’s reading 8ohm, any ideas on how I can find a similar inductor that would work? What other readings do I need to take to ensure I get the right one?
      Thanks again for your help,
      Dave

it's an inductor and it's just a coil of wire, if it's 8ohm then it's probably good - just put some ruber compound or plastic glue like Bostik / UHU on it.
        DONT use superglue.

There's two of them, one measure no resistance (the broken one) the other measures 8ohm.
I want to find a replacement for the broken one but I'm a little confused about what to get!

            152 = 1500 probably milihenry's (mH)
            what's the diameter and height?

You must unsolder it from the board first before you start the following—>

Just take it apart carefully and you might be able to fix it
Just take your time when do it that you do not break the core of the inductor other wise you will not be able to anything with it

The radius is around 8.5mm and the height is around 8mm. I can't find my callipers so had to measure with a ruler 😩

Thanks again for all your help!

I'm pretty sure the copper coil has broken already, I can see it has snapped away from one of the leads.

I’ve found this which appears to be the right radius, height and lead spacing. I’m not sure if it’ll be suitable though, could anyone confirm?
                    Thanks

if your in the u.k. use RS if you can, or cpc followed by rapid and TME.
the postage / minimum order wont kill your wallet.

Thanks, I've actually ordered from Farnell and they'll be delivered tomorrow. I've ordered two and it's cost me £5 including next day delivery.

Thanks everyone for your help, I'll update if I manage to get the lens going.

btw, do you have a component tester?
that purple polymer capacitor is probably way out of spec.

Thanks again for all your help, the new inductor is in and the USM motor is working amazingly well! The inductor I bought was a little too tall so the board doesn’t sit flat but I can’t see that affecting its functionality.
