Re: Need HP Prodesk 600 G6 Desktop Bios dump
I am very interested in clearing the forgotten admin password on my 600 G6 mini tower desktop but I am confused as there appear to be two SPI flash parts on the motherboard. One is a 16pin 256Kbit part and an 8pin 128Kbit part. Would someone inform me which of the two (or both) need to be reprogrammed?
Also, I already own a programmer which will allow me to read/write the required flash part. I would prefer NOT removing the part from the motherboard. So, I am curious whether there has been success in flashing the part while installed on the motherboard. My programmer has the ability to use a spring clip (similar to a clothespin) which would allow flashing the part without unsoldering the part.
I would appreciate clarifying how to reflash the part with a clean copy of the bios and clearing the admin password.
Thanks
Jim

Not sure I understand. What do you mean 256Kb or 128Kb is fine? Are you saying that if you reflash either device that will suffice to clear the admin password?
Also, do you know if it is possible to read and flash the parts while still soldered to the motherboard?
thanks for the response.

Re: Need HP Prodesk 600 G6 Desktop Bios dump
OK, I understand. Thank you for the explanation.
I see earlier in this thread where you supplied the bios dump for a HP ProDesk 600 G6 PCI Microtower PC (9CV80AV). This is my also my model of computer. Will this dump also work for my machine or do I need to supply you with a copy of my locked bios? I thought that maybe each bios dump may have machine serial number information embedded as an additional security measure.
I certainly appreciate your help. I will attempt to read my bios flash part today.
Take care -
Jim

I ended up reading all the posts I could and finally understood what to do.
Initially, I tried reading the 128kb part while soldered to the board but had no luck. I was using the ICSP port on my T48 programmer. Attempted to use the spring clip as well as using 'grabber' clips on each pin. No luck at all.
Therefore, I unsoldered the part and modified the dump using RClocker with the chip installed in a zif socket. So, all is good again, the admin password is cleared.

Need help understanding what I'm doing wrong, when I flash the bios dump I get
"the bios has recovered its identity data from the embedded controller due to data mismatch"
Do I need to flash the 8p chip above it also?
Alternatively is the last post saying blank the first 128k/256k on both chips and the PW will be cleared?
excuse my ignorance on the subjects.
Thankyou.
