Help! New guy recapping ASUS A8V-E mobos

    Hey guys

Noobie here , and have a few questions.

I'm recapping a pair of ASUS A8V-E mobos - both had the same caps go (I think they were the Vcore rail, but not sure). Upon inspection of the caps, I can tell that they are Nippon-Chemicon KZG's rated at 820uF and 6.3V.

Further research indicates that the KZG line is, well *ka-put*.

Obviously I didn't want to replace the caps with the same ones and have them explode 9 months down the road when my child starts trying to do my work for me, so I looked on digikey, and found some caps that were comparable. However I am concerned about impedance. I doubt my multimeter will test these things, so how do I find out what the impedance rating is on these time bombs? Or what could I use in the place of these?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, and if you need picks, let me know.

    820@6.3 KZG's - .036 ohms impedance / 1,140 ma ripple.

I would likely replace all of those (not just the failed ones) with Sanyo OS-CON SEPC Polymer caps either 560uF or 680uF @ 4 volts. Low ESR and superb ripple filtering. Ask Topcat thru the online form here: https://www.badcaps.net/pages.php?vid=23

Or, search eBay (careful of fakes) or Google this -> Sanyo OS-CON SEPC Polymer

On VCore you're after ripple filtering there, not so much capacitance.

Pics if you have them, help.

Identify any surrounding caps and see if they are on the bad caps listing: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=388

Here's a pic of the area with the failed cap(s) on the board. On this board, the failed on is the one closest to the NB heatsink and CPU fan mount. The other larger caps in the photo are the same type.

The second board in question is identical, except that it has a second (also failed) cap beside the failed one (On this board it's just a printed symbol), and is also of the same type.

        (solid polymer caps)

        or..

        for wet lytics

those Nippon Chemicon KZG's don't like heat.. that's the problem..

Take your digital meter and get the voltages from those open cap spots nearby. Get some extra polys if you read less than 4 volts, and fill in those spots.

Would these (or similar, this is an ended listing) caps work?
